Quote issue: no style applied after the quoted block
« on: March 16, 2011, 04:38:57 AM »
Using SP2.3.3 and RC5, i noticed an issue with one type of quotes

Posting this text reproduce the problem:

Code: [Select]
[quote=test]This is a quoted text[/quote]
[color=red][b]A colored answer ?[/b][/color]

The parse_tag_cache used with SP seems not to work well with the "parsed_tags_allowed" parameter used with this kind of quote as it results in anything behind it not to be parsed correctly (A colored answer ? appears without any style.)

this text is red

That's an interesting one, butch2k. Clearly, everything works fine in the parameterised form, but not OK with the parse_equals form of quote. Since quote is the only unparsed_equals BBC tag, it is difficult to test further what contributes to the problem without creating some custom BBC. I know the team will be interested in this little bug. In the meantime, I think the best workaround is to avoid the "quote=" form of the tag.
Code: [Select]
[quote author=test]This is [b]quoted[/b] textthis answer is red
Quote from: test
This is quoted text
this answer is red

Code: [Select]
[quote=test]This is [b]quoted[/b] text[/quote]
[color=red]this answer is red[/color]

For some reason, parse_bbc stops processing tags properly once it opens the quoted block.
Quote from: test
This is quoted text
this answer is red

The "parsed_tags_allowed" is the culprit here, commenting out this parameter fixes the issue.
It's most probably the caching mechanism state which is not properly reset due to the recursion within parse_bbc, caused by parse_tags_allowed.

I did not have much time yesterday to investigate further, but i'll have a look tonite.

Sooo...it would appear that SP is breaking bbcodes?...The quote tag at least anyway. She removed the comments that SP places and her quote tag was working again.

I have never seen this problem on my website. Seems like a caching problem.  It might be worth flushing the cache.
I am seeing the problem right here, right now, with SP 2.3.4
Quote from: test
this is a quote
this should be red

So there is some kind of problem.
I have reported it http://simpleportal.net/index.php?issue=450.0

I am unsure how you react to posts like this, and sincere apologies for I am not trying to be annoying here, but is there a possibility SimplePortal also breaks multiple quotes in the same manner that red text isn't shown? It seems to work on plain SMF forums, but my live forum with the portal (SMF 2.0.1/Portal 2.3.3) does not. :s
I found another account of something like it here and have ofc reported it on this forum, but didn't see it had been taken up already.
(The reason I post here is because I think you'll rage if I make another topic =( )

I wouldn't rage. I don't bite the newbies. Or even semi-newbies. :)

Thanks for providing more information about something that might be related to this bug.

Our founder and developer has not had the time to thouroughly investigate the source of the problem with the quote box.

And our support specialist staff (me) has not had the time to respond to your questions from Dec. 10, either.

I am sorry to say that this is the way things often go when a small team tries to keep a big mod like this one going, and I apologize.

Sinan thinks it may be related to some things he did in parse_bbc, which are mostly, if I recall directly, meant to cut down on the load imposed by the shoutbox (which calls on parse_bbc frequently). It sounds plausible to me.

haha appreciate the warm response, :) I noticed because the previous platform used quote= as standard, so there are  different outcomes now with colour codes, quotes in quotes in quotes and quotes after quotes etc, but on the other hand mostly forum nostalgics go back as often to be disturbed, :P
When I scratched on the surface back in december I completely missed any connection to the shoutbox, :S hmm

I understand that it's a small team working on the portal, it's not meant as impatient pressure, just glad to help highlight it for the future. =D Now off to install 2.3.4!
