Homepage link not loading when a user is logged in.
« on: October 07, 2013, 07:59:58 AM »
Afternoon all,

on our club website. www.bkksys.co.uk everything is hunky dory unless a user is logged in. When logged in, users can not access the "home" page, or load www.bkksys.co.uk if they are logged in.

Once a user has logged out the page loads fine.

I've had to circulate a link to the forum, which works fine for users regardless of login status.

any ideas?

TIA

Hi AngelinaBelle,

Many thanks for your participation. I've set a user account up for you to look at
Username: test
pass: test1234

However, I've now noted on new account the site behaves exactly as it should until I change the group membership.

I've also set up the following user:
username: test1
pass: test4321

which is part of a group and has the issue loading the home page.

which lead me to check existing users membership; removing all group memberships results in normal behavior. Which points to a group membership issue?

That is weird.
I noticed I could not complete login in as user test1

ARe you sure you want to give out the passwords like that?

I also noticed that, even before I login, the URL contains sessionid information, and an "&"
The & is not normal SMF behavior; SMF normally uses a ";" instead
What mods do you have running?

Would you consider upgrading SMF to the current version?

* Logging in as test1 or test2 leads to 500 errors -- perhaps major permission problems on one of the required source files? Like permission set higher than your host allows it (this is a problem with 1and1, for example)
* I can actually get to the forum, if I specify an action, like ?action=portal, but just clicking on the "home" button leads to 500 errors, whether I am logged in as test or as test1.

* I can do ?action=logout (clicking the logout button).

Something is very odd.  Please check permissions first.

log out of forum
delete cookies
empty cache

restart browser and log in

if problem still continues its possible that you had used another content management system (CMS) that still has the old httacess info, rename httacess and repeat the above steps to see if THAT was the problem

I just had this exact problem and this was the first thread via Google

Thanks for the tip, only1,

We haven't heard back from Morphies in a long time.  A quick visit to the site indicates that it has moved.  The  new site does not look like it is made with SimplePortal or even SMF.

So I will mark this solved.
