Where to/how put validation icon
« on: October 20, 2013, 06:33:54 AM »
Hi.
First of all, I'm sorry if this should be posted someplace else. If so I hope it can be moved by a person able to do so?
Actually I'm not even sure if it is a question related to SimplePortal - or if it belongs to SMF itself and should been asked over at the SMF support board...?

My question is about the validation link/icon from W3C, I would like to put these icons at my site. As I see it the footer is a ok place, maybe under the copyright information, or to the left side on the same "line".
But I have no idea how to do this  :-[ - or if it can be done without violating some rights.

Any suggestions, please? Maybe there are better places to put them?

Have to say I have very limited coding skills, complex coding will probebly not be possible for me to do.

PS. I know, and have tested, to use the links/icons provided from W3C in a custom HTML bloc. Works ok, but is not a very neet solution, in my opinion. Woluld reaaly like it some place as mentioned above.

Using:
*SMF 2.0.5
*SimplePortal 2.3.5

Great portal, by the way   :)

Hello agai.

I don't mean to bump, but maybe someone can guide me to ether a solution or tell me if this belongs to the support for SMF.
I attach a clip that maybe better explain what I'm looking for. The red marks is where I want some icons. If possible...how?

I tried some mods for SMF, but didn't find something to modify this part.

Simple Portal has a position for a footer block. In the blocks list you will see it.

Menu
SMF Admin panel> Simple Portal> Blocks> Block List

Its at the bottom of the page (  :P as its the footer section)

Click the + sign on the right to add a block in that location.
Choose custom html or BBcode block.
You can learn how to add the links easily I think.

Alternatively you can find a footer links mod on the SMF site.

Thank you, andy  :)
I have tested both some mods and the footer block. However this will not give the possibility to place aything on the level where the copyrights are placed, only "higher"... inside the portal field itself.

Attached this post where the footer block will be - attached in the post above your reply the red mark showing where I would like to place it.

But maybe it's not possible to put something there?

It wont be easy putting it at the same level at the credits centered at the bottom unless you have experience adding html to the files. You would have to make edits to the theme files to probably add a new table on the left and include the link.  That might also require changes for the way the credits are centered.

Originally you were right - this is an SMF support topic, not really a Simple Portal one. You will probably find more helpful topics over on the SMF site. And there might be a quick / easy way of doing it or a mod over there.
Andy

PS
Ive been through a lot of this myself and these days I accept I cant customize everything exactly the way I want it... well, not without too much work. So I use the easiest solution or one that doesnt require so much customization or extra code. Personally I would just use a block or a mod over on SMF that will at links at the bottom.

Thank's again, andy.
I tried different mods, but the few (or rather the olny one) I found that actually made it possible to use the level where the copyright is placed gives error due to another mod I have installed.

No big deal anyway, I will either use an extra block or wait until another solution comes up. Who knowes...maybe a mod wil be made in the future.

Thank you again for taking the trouble to reply.
