I found the following fields were added to the end of the database and do not start with smf_ like the rest of the fields;

sp_articles
sp_blocks
sp_categories
sp_functions
sp_parameters

It appears that Simple Portal installed the new database fields without adding the smf_ and is looking for it "see post above". How do I rename the fields to add smf_ to these fields?

OK More information. I added the prefix smf_ to sp_functions in other words smf_sp_functions. When I try to install Simple Portal again, it renames smf_sp_functions to sp_functions thus causing the error as attached above.

I do not know what else to try at this point.

Alright than.

Found the problem and successfully installed the mod. It appears that the author is not paying attention to the MySQL table prefix: field. When I changed the field to empty/blank meaning no data and removed the table prefix from my database, the mod installed fine.

Hopefully, the author will fix this in a future release.

Will I tried several different combinations and still had the problem with the prefix. just for grins I downloaded a fresh copy of the mod and now everything is working fine. Beats the heck out of me what was going on. Good news is that everything now appears fine and the author does pay attention to the prefix. My mistake!

I think originally you did not upgaded the database when you upgrade SMF. You can do this by running  the 'large upgrade'

http://download.simplemachines.org/

Make sure you follow the details in the upgrade. There might be a shortcut script to just upgrade the database than running that upgrade but I dont want to make a mistake saying something else which might be wrong.

Anyway - it was a mistake changing the prefixes. The 'sp' ones are put in there for SP - Simple Portal data and settings. If you change the names Im sure it will cause errors if unable to find the date in the tables - as you renamed them.

There is no need to change the names - Simple Portal adds its own tables to the smf database - that causes no problems.

How is the situation now?

As you have changed so many things it is hard to say what is best to do. If I get in deep trouble I run a clean install of all files using the large upgrade package
http://download.simplemachines.org/

That cleans out any file edits.

Before running the large upgrade you should put back a previous database backup - one not changed by you.
You should also always make a database backup before you change anything - you did that right?

Then you will have a clean site and can start putting mods back in.

Andy,

Thank you for your comments. As I said in my post above, I downloaded the mod again and this time everything worked without error. Beats the heck out of me why the errors on the original download was happening.

Everything is working and this is a really great mod!
