Statscounter in portal block
« on: January 04, 2015, 05:50:51 AM »
Hi Just wondering
Is there any simpler way to embed my statscounter in a block.
Will it work?
or can it be done

There are already many kind of default blocks doing this...
Have you tried SimplePortal Documentation before asking? ;)

Any stats-related that does what you want to achieve? Have a look?

Use a plain HTML Block, place your statcounter code, and more likely, check the boxes to do no title and body.

That's if you want to put custom stat counters, yes. (e.g. with code picked from other sites, not specifically or necessarily smf-related)

Ninja, the OP was asking about statcounter, which is not a part of SMF at all.
He was not asking about the built in blocks for the standard SMF stats.

Although, as much as I used to like StatCounter, I have stopped using it, myself, as most people do not get counted or shown. Most browsers actually block Statcounter, so it's basically useless now.

That's why I pointed it in reply #5, I got it later. From what it looked like it seemed to me he was referring to the stats themselves and not to an external plugin like that ;)

it worked as per your instruction.
Thanks.
i wasn't really sure what code i should have used but i put in the Basic Xhtml
I have always liked StatsCounter and i didn't know that now days these  browsers are blocking this program.
Very interesting as i can see who comes into my site and what browser others are using, unless i am only seeing a few.
Maybe there might be others guest as you mention that is not being displayed.

Lets just say, I look at my stats on their site, and it does not even match the stats that the forums shows.
I had several people on one day, members and guests, yet statcounter still showed no one for that day.

Sorry to have to ask you both this question but if you guys are not using Statscounter what are you using. Is there a mod that can do this similar or better.
Just wondering?
or unless there is an inbuilt function that i am not even looking at.

BK has quitted SMF completely due to the same issues I experienced right before him, so he is deleting any SMF accounts he has. No offence to SiNaN he can't be Beta Tester without having an SMF installation... So he probably won't reply anymore. Just so you know he moved to ProBoards software.

As regards the question... Not really. You can increase the online time threshold if you want and it will still be laggy and not accurate, unfortunately. Said that, I've never really been interested into knowing such informations..

Sorry for the late reply I was busy fighting back the most massive spam attack I had ever seen (banned a TON of IPs...).

Oh i am so sorry to hear this.
I think they lost a valuable member of the team.
Its a pity people there in (SMF ) didn't really appreciate what others do.
He was good to me in helping me out when i needed it to understand the basic while others just left me alone to struggle.
How sad and what a great loss since he had so many post in SMF and a lot of supporters as well. :o

And I'm not posting there either so they lost another one and counting... I just saw another guy who got his badge removed recently, one of the very few that I liked. I'm really done with it unless 90% of the team goes away, they bring back metallica as PM and then ask me to do something then I would happily do that, otherwise... No.
Still this question is interesting and no matter what I think about I can't find anything better than the standard and inaccurate statistics where you manually have to check each IP's country... Maybe Stop Forum Spam mods could help in that: http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=1519 this that works at registration, super awesome - and it also adds a link to quickly check people from the who's online list :)
The only issue with it is that everyone will see that link, even people without the permission (they will see 0.0.0.0 as IP so the privacy is ok but it's stupid anyway), since it was me who noticed it I got it fixed by a former developer here, you may find this patch useful too: http://www.italiansmf.net/forum/index.php?topic=1252.0 you might need Google translator though even if the good edit is the one in reply #3 there. Since there are many places for that the string to replace is the one right before the stopforumspam stuff.
Let me know if it helps a bit, it also helped me a lot during the recent spam attack I had to fight with...

Tonymura

Thank you for the kind words. You are always welcome to visit my new site, and all. :)

Now, there are other ways to track visitors, and one that I have used in the past is Feedjit Free Live Traffic Feed

Now, there's something to note with this... Add it via a portal block, and make sure not to set it to display that block in the admin section, as it does display URLs to all visitors, since they see the widget.
