The problem with navigation on the news
« on: March 30, 2015, 02:58:01 PM »
Hey there
I have links to the wrong port at the bottom of the page
Link to the second page looks like /index.php?articles=5
and opens only 1st 5 news.
But if you change the link hands on /index.php?sa=articles;start=6 - opens the following news.
How can I fix this?

Version Information:
Your Version: 2.3.4 RC1

Hi and welcome to SimplePortal.
Unless you don't care at all about security and about your own users please UPDATE both your forum version (if you are still running RC5 I could probably hack your site myself in 2 minutes and I'm not a professional coder, really) and also SimplePortal version which is now on 2.3.6 :)
Have you tried SimplePortal Documentation before asking? ;)

back up your forum & database. Then uninstall simple portal and make sure you leave the box that says delete all data unchecked. This will save your blocks & other simple portal data. Then you install v2.3.6. You shouldn't lose your data, but if you do that's why you made a backup.

To update smf go here http://download.simplemachines.org/ and download the large update package, not the full install package. Unfortunately the large upgrade removes all of your modifications, you'll have to ask on simplemachines.org forum if there is a way to reinstall them easily & protect your data, I've never had to upgrade before as I started with v2.0.9. Ninja is right though, upgrading is absolutely necessary if you don't want someone defacing your forum eventually.

You are extremely lucky if nobody hacked your forum yet, and I'm not kidding at all...
Some useful links:
http://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/Main_Page
http://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/Patching
yet in this particular (and ONLY) case, you need to run a large upgrade, which is a bit more annoying than usual.. You basically need to do this: http://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/Upgrading and you can just upgrade to 2.0.9 directly. However it will be like starting with a basic forum with just your own database (so messages, members and stuff will be there, except mods and themes).

As to how to upgrade SimplePortal well you will have to reinstall it so just download the latest version from here: http://simpleportal.net/index.php?action=downloads;area=stable_simpleportal_packages;file=139;download

Cheers :)

EDIT: ninja'd, lol, had the reply opened for a while

No I didn't :) The whole supporting people win, not the individual ;) At least that's how it is to me.
