Block to appear on certain boards - sub-boards and topics
« on: July 17, 2015, 05:21:33 AM »
I can get a block to appear on a certain forum board which is great, but is it possible to get it to also appear on all the boards sub-boards and all the topics within?

e.g.
Board 1
----------Sub Board 1
----------Sub Board 2
------------------Topic 1
------------------Topic 2

I can get it to appear on Board 1 but clicking down in to the sub boards and topics within them it disappears.

Hope this makes sense :)

Im not sure how you are selecting the boards.

If you make a block then under the top edit area the next section is 'Display Options'. If you check the box on the right 'Advanced Options' then a lot more detail opens up.
You can then click the '+' sign on the left for 'Select Boards'. That opens up and you simple checkbox every board you want. It should automatically display on topics within those boards. If you negate anything in the' Custom Display Options' box you could alter that behaviour.

Thanks Andy but unfortunately the advanced options does let you select sub-boards.
For example
Say I had a board called 'Reviews' and in here you could put any review post you wanted.
Then I have sub-boards called 'Book Review', 'Movie Review' etc.
In the advanced options I can select the 'Reviews' board but there is no option to select the other two.

Hope this makes sense.

Well, I’m surprised. I haven’t tested sub-forums but it should work. If not then it is maybe something to suggest to Sinnan as a feature request.

Another way is using the custom display options. That should be easy using the subforum IDs. I assume if it is set to display in a sub-forum it will also follow the rule and display on topics.

Take a look at this and test it:

Specify a Value
If you want to show the block only when the parameter has a certain value (board=10.0, album=99, game=uno), then you must use the pipe or idkin character |.  It is standing in for an equals sign (=).

~board|10.0 -- block will show only when board=10.0 appears in the query string.
~game|uno -- block will show only when game=uno appears in the query string

You can get the board IDs in SMF admin section for the boards, or just the board link from the front end will show the ID number.
It is easy to add more than one board by just using a comma and repeating the custom display option for another ID.

Actually, the sub-boards (child boards) should also be listed in the advanced display options list. However, the order looks messed up. (never paid attention to that - should fix in the next version) Can you confirm that they appear but are not ordered as you would expect them to be?
And slowly, you come to realize... It's all as it should be...

Please accept my apologies - I'm a total idiot. The sub boards are there but because they weren't listed under the main category I took no notice of them  :-[  :-[
I can confirm that they are there but not in alphabetic order, not listed as they appear on my forum and not listed under the parent board.

Again sorry for being an idiot and wasting your time.

Yep, don't worry about it. It was my mistake for not sorting those properly. Should be fixed in the next version. :)
