Shoutbox Problem After SMF Minor Upgrade

SMF 2.0.12 | SMF © 2016, Simple Machines, XHTML RSS WAP2, SimplePortal 2.3.3 © 2008-2010, SimplePortal

Just updated SMF from 2.0.11 to 2.0.12.

Shoutbox now misbehaving. When enabled, initially all is well. As soon as shoutbox refreshes, current shouts disappear and a message appears, "No shouts yet" or similar words to that effect.

I am trying to avoid upgrading SimplePortal if possible. All is working well except the shoutbox.

Just received this advice from SMF.

Go back to 2.0.11
They are working on a patch for this in 2.0.13

Mind linking to the post where SMF is telling you to downgrade?

SMF updates are generally security and maintenance adjustments. I would never downgrade forum software for any reason.

I would stay on 2.0.12 and then just disable the shoutbox until 2.0.13.

There are no security holes (known, at least) in 2.0.11, and it causes more issues than what it "fixes" (also another huge problem with BBC), so that's most likely the reason why we didn't update ourselves. Didn't update my own forum either, for that matters...

Or disable the cache (that is mostly pointless anyway unless you really have a busy site... do you have a busy forum?).

I'm sitting on 2.0.11 also. If 2.0.13 appears stable then I'm in.

May I suggest that people move to SSL as eventually you may be forced to.

There's no real reason to move to SSL to be honest, other than login if you wish, but even then there are no security flaws at the moment (or at least, no known ones :P ).
If you move to SSL SMF should be still working, except for external images for avatars.

I understand but I run a very sensitive site so I implemented SSL all throughout.

However, Apple is forcing it's users to SSL so I feel that it is inevitable for the rest of us one day, too.

I made a change to accommodate HTTPS in the SMF repair_settings.php tool if anyone is interested. See SM site if so.

Any external image, not only avatars.
Any external image shall use the https schema, otherwise it will not be displayed (and the browser will show the usual warning about unsafe content).

Actually, I'm more afraid (as a developer) of Google Chrome forcing ssl starting from... January I think than Apple, but one or the other it's not a big deal, the point is that many are pushing for ssl and want it or not, sooner or later we'll have to deal with it.
I'm not really interested myself in acquiring an ssl certificate and let alone setting it up (I wouldn't even know where to start lol).

I still have no idea how they can get away with forcing SSL onto people.
If this is the case, they better start giving all certificates free.
