Help: Still not quite working
« on: August 24, 2010, 01:22:07 PM »
Hi,

I followed the steps for installation:

1. SMF 2.0 RC3 is installed in http://xinyidesign.com/smf
2. Under Admin -> simpleportal -> configuration -> general setting:
    a) Portal Mode: Standalone;
    b) Stand alone URL: http://xinyidesign.com
3. Save and go the the home page, get errors...

Can someone help? Any help are greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

That file looks OK, as far as I can tell (I cannot verify that $forum_dir is correct).
Please tell exactly what errors you get, and when you get them.

it looks to me as if that file is not in http://xinyidesign.com

to me it looks as if there is no files in the root...

all the files are in http://xinyidesign.com/smf ???
as a foot note:
i went from a SMF 1.1.11 to SMF2 RC3 with out any problems what so ever, first of all de-install all Mods, converted to RC3, then installed SP2.3.2, then installed the required Mods.

The 500 error means something really unexpected happened with the server.

Not a missing file (404 error), not a permissions problem (403) error.

When I try http://xinyidesign.com/index.php, I get a slightly different error than if I try http://xinyidesign.com

To get to the bottom of this, you may need to find out what errors are on the web server log.

Very good catch!
I checked the error log and it said:

Quote
[Wed Aug 25 19:07:19 2010] [error] [client 24.60.83.104] SoftException in Application.cpp:256: File "/home/xinyide1/public_html/index.php" is writeable by group, referer: http://simpleportal.net/index.php?topic=6291.0;topicseen

Then checked the permission of the file 666. I changed it to 645 (most save!), it works now. Whoever documents the steps, please take a note.

Thank you all.

I can't give you a hard-and-fast rule on what file permissions your server will allow.

The best advce is -- if you don't know what an error number means, find out.  If you have a server error, check the server log.

I forgot to select message icon to solved. Here is what need to be documented:

Make sure the permission of file be readable and executable by world, so it should be xx5 correction, 5 instead of 4.

Thanks AngelinaBelle for patiently go over with me on all these details.

Which settings will be permitted (664 or 666) depends on your server.

Maybe tips like this can be added to the Install section of the documentation.
