Information has been hard to come by, but that doesn't mean the SimplePortal Team has been inactive. The gears have been turning loudly among the Devs, and we are proud to announce that two (that's right, two) versions of SimplePortal are now being tested by our Beta Testers! They should be released as final versions within the coming weeks.
These new releases are currently compatible with SMF 2.0 Beta 4 Public, and will be compatible with both SMF 1.1.x and SMF 2.x upon their release! Now you don't have to worry about upgrading.
New releases:
SimplePortal Classic 2.0.5: The Current SP with bugfixes, a few small new features, and SMF 2.x compatibility.
SimplePortal 2.1: The version you've all been waiting for, complete with forum-integration like you've seen tested here for months.
With the decision to release two versions, the SimplePortal Team has decided to rename the SimplePortal 2.0.x line to SimplePortal Classic, in view of its simplistic appearance. One page, one portal, and then the rest of your forum, just as SimplePortal has been since its release.
The new version, SP 2.1, will begin to explore forum integration. Though we are primarily exploring integration, we have been cooking up some new features which are sure to bring plenty of pleasant surprises in future releases!
Why separate these two versions? Some users prefer a truly simple portal; just a front page for their site, and nothing else. To those users, we present SimplePortal Classic. To users who prefer an advanced portal that's competitive with TinyPortal, the new PortaMX, and other 3rd party integrations, we present SimplePortal 2.1 and onwards!
And finally, we have the last bit of news.
As of this past week, [SiNaN] has decided to retire from SimplePortal. He said that this project will survive, though, with the SimplePortal Team at its helm. And he'll be around, though you may not see him, to observe and see his creation grow. From us at the SimplePortal Team, we wish [SiNaN] the best of luck in his future! He will, and shall always be, to us, Mr. SimplePortal.
Thank you for reading!

But this may be because of many reasons. Really he is true, that simple portal will survive with the current team.
Even though While i was upgrading the simple portal, i found SiNaN was so helpful and active.
Now a days his participation around the SMf and SP is comparatively low.
Hope he will be busy with his studies or some personal work.
I personally miss SiNaN's Active participation and many more to say.
Anyhow congrates to SP Team.

Fantastic! Great update!
-
Indeed. Congrats to the rest of the team for putting this together so nicely. :)
-
Very nice!
Is there any new strings to translate?
-
@Nascar,
There will be several new strings to translate, and several updated strings that may need to be translated again, because they have been updated by the language team. A fairly major revision of the language strings has also occured, and I have been meaning to write a topic about it in the translator board, so that should happen in the next few days. ;)

We are getting very close to a release, although we won't actually set a date until we release it, to avoid putting pressure on the team members that still need to do some work for the final release.
-
Any release date for 2.1 yet

Now serious, It's important to everyone understand, that's not good rush the devenlopers of SP.
They need to stay without pressure to coding the new version of SP.
So, Let's stop with this type of question and say: "Good luck, and don't worry, we know you can made the best portal of the world"
everybody say with me now!
