Firefox issue with Shoutbox
« on: September 03, 2009, 02:34:06 PM »
I'm having issues with my shoutbox it does not have a scroll bar it just keeps going till it goes over my forums. Check at bocgaming.org/index.php?action=forum

But on IE it works right. I see on your shoutbox, your not having that issue. Please help lol

I have even registered to your forum but still can't see a shoutbox block.
And slowly, you come to realize... It's all as it should be...

I'm unsure if I should post in this thread, or start a new one. I started out with the exact same problem (no scrollbar on the shoutbox so it ran down into/over the next block), in Firefox only, IE displayed fine.

Then, without changing anything, just refreshing the portal, I had a new problem. The shoutbox had a scrollbar, but so did every other block on the page, which definately should not (scrolling to nowhere). In fact, even the shoutbox has an extra scrollbar. I have at least one other user who has responded who had the same experience on the forum... no scrollbar on the shoutbox so it ran down into/over the next block, then, when revisiting the page, everything has a scrollbar.

I've tried turning off the shoutbox, but the scrollbars now remain on the rest.

(There were no errors on uninstall of the older version, nor on the install of 2.3)

After further fiddling, experimenting, and banging my head against the wall, this perhaps should be on the support board, rather than bugs, at least for my part. I can't speak for the original poster, or know for certain if their problem is the same...

As best as I can tell, it's something in my theme that doesn't like something in 2.3 (at least when using Firefox). I can switch to other themes and the problem disappears. I really want to keep using the theme, but I don't even know where to begin to look for the problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Screenshot doesn't help much really. I see it as it should be on your forum. How can we reproduce this issue?

There is an overflow protection for blocks, but looks like your theme uses some weird styling for generic styles.

portal.css

Code: (Find) [Select]
div.sp_block
{
overflow: auto;
}

Code: (Replace) [Select]
div.sp_block
{
}

Also, this isn't a "Global Shoutbox Help" topic. So further issues, please create your own topics.

That did the trick! Thank you for your time, much appreciated. Made me grind my teeth, to see it that way.

*hangs head and looks scolded*
First thing I do when looking for support on a forum is do a search to see if anyone else is having a similar problem. 99% of the time, there's already a solution out there, even if the details of the problem aren't exact. Didn't expect to get that lucky right after release, but I did think I'd hit upon someone with the same problem after seeing that screen shot - that's exactly what mine did to begin with, and also only in firefox. The fact that it reverted back to that state once early on, for both myself and another user on my forum, made me continue to think so. It was only after a lot of poking around stuff that I reconsidered. Sorry  :(
