Title: RSS feed reading code messes up home
Post by: dougsbrat on December 30, 2008, 09:16:47 PM
RSS block feed reading code messes up home portal.

I have seen this a few times now..
I am showing a few sites RSS feed on my portal (home) as headlines for that site.. (this forum is one)  ;D

if there is any code that is shown in the RSS feed.. SP tries to process it, which messes up the portal!  :dead:

if I disable the rss feed block its back to normal, until the offending post rolls off from view and I can enable it again.

You mean it executes the codes? What kind of codes are we talking about?

I assume ones like PHP

say I
1. reply to you here and paste come code (working or not)
2. my RSS picks up and displays the message..
3. it shows part of the code and usually messes up the HTML table on the page and quits processing the page (not showing any blocks after that)

if I disable the offending rss block the SP shows fine again.
after enough time for the offending post not be shown.. I enable the rss block and SP is fine again.

I'll look into this issue, thanks for reporting.

I also tested this, and had no issues on SMF 1.1.7 and SMF 2.0 Beta 4.

However, right after I added a 2nd RSS feed, I saw the messed up table.
However, when refresh the page, it cleared up.

I think it's more a caching issue when adding new feed, not a bug.
