IE v/s FF Bug?
« on: April 05, 2009, 11:15:36 PM »
Hi I am a member of SMF but thought it might be better to post here where this great MOD was created, and I do love it.

One thing I have noticed since going from 2.1 to 2.2 on SMF default theme is this. I have the Portal enabled as my front page but none of the blocks are enabled anywhere else on the forum.

Here is what I see with IE v/s FF Browsers and you will notice the wide empty space on the right with IE. Any ideas how I can correct this?  Thanks

Although there are some issues with portal template and Chrome, I'm not sure if you are having a similar problem, just because of this. We'll look into re-designing portal layer templates, but still it might be related to large number of XHTML error you are having. They could be causing issue when portal layers are attached.
And slowly, you come to realize... It's all as it should be...

Thanks for the response [SiNaN]!  I have cleaned most of those up and just cannot get it right in IE.  One crazy thing makes no sense is if I am signed in as global mod (instead of Admin) the problem goes away LOL. What sense does that make? However other members on my forum with IE are asking about it so who knows.

I am not sure what to do, maybe roll back to 2.1 because I can't get it to look right  :nervous-happy:

Thanks for your efforts!

Hi just wanted to follow up on this after spending hours of trial and error. First, it does not happen in FF, only IE. Second, it seems to be somehow related to permissions which makes no sense to me. In IE if I am ADMIN it is really bad. If I am Global Mod in IE it does not happen at all. If I am regular member it does happen but to a lesser extent.

I wondered if the Google Ad mod could have something to do with it so I even removed the two under the menu bar, It did not cure the problem. If anyone has any other ideas please let me know but I understand you guys cannot figure out every problem. Thanks!

P.S. I wonder if this alignment issue in the attached pic is all part of the same problem.

I still see XHTML errors on the page and some of them are opening/closing mismatch. Once you make sure all of them are clear, then I can say this might be a bug. Because I cannot reproduce this in my test with default theme and 2.2.

For the uneven issue, it is because of linktree being above the categories. As SimplePortal, there isn't much we can do about it. You may add theme_linktree() function above the bodyarea in index.template.php and remove all instances of theme_linktree() in other template files if you wish. This is fixed in SMF with SMF 2.0 versions.

About different sizes; there is a line-break added after each block. You can decrease/increase the space by changing line-height of the line-break.

SPortalBlocks1-1.template.php

Find:

Code: [Select]
</div>
<br />';

Replace:

Code: [Select]
</div>
<br style="line-height: 0.5em;" />';
And slowly, you come to realize... It's all as it should be...

Thanks [SiNaN] I am having someone helping me get rid of these errors to see if the right spacing problem goes away. I will get back with the results.

Okay, I think I've found the issue. There is a mod you've installed which sets $context['html_headers'] incorrectly and that causes portal css not to be loaded on display template. Would you please list all your mods installed?

----

Edit:

Found it. It's Ignore User mod. This should fix it.

Sources/Display.php

Code: (Find) [Select]
//-Ignore MOD- START
$context['html_headers']  = '

Code: (Replace) [Select]
//-Ignore MOD- START
$context['html_headers']  .= '

Remember this edit if you'll uninstall the mod in question.

Holly Molly that did it!  [SiNaN] you are unreal. This is the second time you have found something to make my forum well again.  Thanks a million. It is amazing something that trivial could make all the difference.
