Display articles on a page but NOT the portal?
« on: July 05, 2011, 12:17:19 PM »
Hi,
I'm having problems doing something - hope someone can help.

My website is at www.donnaforex.com
I have created articles, which i want to display on a page. I have done this successfully here: http://www.donnaforex.com/forum/?page=theaslangroup

The problem is, the articles also display automatically on my home page (the portal page) at donnaforex.com and i cannot remove them in any way. When i use the advanced settings on the article block, i select to display it on the page as i have done above, but i cannot seem to remove it from the portal page - and i really don't want it there :(.

Can anyone help?

thanks ;)

Morn Hannah,

While those on the front page don't appear to be article blocks, there is a way to get rid of them.  Do the following.

Go into your "Admin" panel and choose "blocks" under SimplePortal.

Find there area that says "Top Blocks", it should be the second one down, and find out which blocks have a are checked to be Active.  You should be able to figure out which blocks they are from there and uncheck them.

Hope this helps.

This isn't the problem.

I only have 1 articles block active.
In the advanced display options of that block i have ticked the page i want the block to display on. However, it also displays on the portal and the options give me no way of disabling that. I attached a screenshot so you can see what i mean.

Can anyone help?

I use an articles block and moved it to another page and couldn't duplicate the actual threads showing up on the portal.

If you could, post a screen shot of the blocks page.  Not the article block settings but the the page that shows all the blocks that you have so that I can see what is active and what isn't.

I have attached a screenshot for you.

Morn hannah,

Think I found your problem.

Go into admin then configuration under SimplePortal.
There is a menu option at the top called "Article Settings"  click on this and make sure that the top option "Enable Articles" isn't checked, if it is then uncheck it and click "save".

I didn't have "Enable Articles" checked but once I checked it my portal page had all the articles listed to.  Even with this option un-checked you still will have "Article Blocks" visible.

Hope this takes care of it.

I'm sorry it took me so long to get back to this - a few other urgent things fell in my path and i only now had chance to visit the forum.

Anyway, you are right! THANK YOU! I'd never have guessed this one on my own as it feels counter-intuitive.

Thanks again.

Found this older thread searching for a solution to same problem Hannah ran across. The above solution does indeed remove the articles from the bottom of the portal page but appears to also remove the option to assign threads as articles meaning to populate your articles list one must admin-simple portal-articles-add articles rather than just using the add as article button at the thread itself.

It would be handy to have the two actions handled by separate check boxes so one could retain the add as article button. Wish I was adept enough at this stuff to do myself. If there's a work around that anyone knows of, I'd love to know about it.
