Title: Width of left side blocks - no effect after adjust
Post by: simplelynoob on October 14, 2008, 10:50:48 PM
Width of left side blocks

"If left side blocks are enabled, their width can be specified here.
The width can be specified in pixels (px) or in percentages (%)."

I've it enable, range from 10 to 100, seems no effect.
Did I missed some other setting?

Hmmm i tested it and work fine, but i will look again... (possible that i only tested it on SMF 1.1.6)

If you do not insert a px or % most browser take "px" as standard witdh.
And for expample Firefox, Opera and IE ignore a witdh if it is not possible to insert all the stuff.

So it could be possible that 10px are to small for the information, the same goes for 100px ;).
Try 10% this could be better.

Thanks for trying.

Ok, I tried both, left and right blocks created with bbc, login, php, html.
all works with setting either in percent or px, all works according to setting.

Found out when I includes youtube in the bbc block,
both, left or right block size will locked to youtube width.

Thank you.

One problem solved, another problem created:

After doing some tinkering I figured out what was causing the problem at www.AmericanaWorks.com (and others by implication).  I had inserted an html block with an Amazon carousel widget.  It had a width of 600 pixels.  That appears to have thrown everything off.  I cut it back to 420 and now the columns are good.  So, there you have it.  Amazon widgets are in the same class as Youtube embeds for screwing up column width.

However, now I have a new problem at www.AmericanaWorks.com in that many, but not all of the Youtube vid embeds are not displaying.  They just show the link to youtube.

Your insights into this are valued!

Thanks!

I looked at you site and i see the youtube videos... i think you use kalberson's mod for your youtube things, so i think you've more videos than the limit allowes...

Somehow i've the feeling that this is an de ja vu...

Yes, I've tried kalberson's mod (AEVA), indeed some sort of viewing limit.
I switch to use his other version, Youtube BBCode, and was perfect.

Thank you 1031 and simplynoob.  I am using AEVAC v3.1.2 as you both suspected and will switch to the mod you suggested as soon as I can.

Again, many many thanks for your advice.  It is sincerely appreciated!
