Title: Guest Cannot see SimplePortal
Post by: xmathewx75 on February 28, 2011, 10:28:12 AM
Problem: Quest can't see SimplePortal pages or home page

Site version: SMF 2.0 RC5

SimplePortal version: 2.3.3 (Most up to date version)

Website: www.crazer.podserver.info (http://www.crazer.podserver.info/)

What Happened: Well I just got my forum up, and I want quest to be able to see simple portal models and blocks, can someone please tell me why this problem is happening? I can't find any option to enable guest viewing simple portal blocks and models.

Do you see any blocks in your blocks list?

I do not know anything about "Quest".

i guess he's talking about "Guest"

a bit weird... your Menu structure shows "Ban" and if clicked it causes an error---

in status bar your link looks like "http://crazer.podserver.info/index.php?PHPSESSID=26a5bf2494H7ec485e76e56f4e0bed6a&page=bans"

did you change some code ?

Sorry, I ment Guest... But my ban list is having nothing to do with this, my problem is the Guest is not able to see SP blocks and models. I don't understand why.

what i meant is, your links look weird, if i am right, SP never uses "&" in links.... always ";"

watch this :

http://crazer.podserver.info/index.php?action=admin;area=portalblocks;sa=list;

klick and see, there you can change the block visibility, but still something is weird with your urls

Regards

I do have blocks for it display, but they don't seem to display to members or guest, just me! I just installed my new website so everything got lost :( something happened to my database. So anyways, can you guys tell me how I can fix this? I tried setting permissions on SP for guest and members, but nothing for me to select.

Check your SimplePortal settings.  Are you in SimplePortal maintenance mode?

I have checked my SP settings, but, I don't want SP maintenance mod, cause I want guest to be able to see it.

It sounds like you had troubles even before your SimplePortal problems began.
You say you had database problems? How did that start?

Could it just be because its on SMF2.0 RC5, because its not in a current version of SP 3.3.3? I think that's the problem, so you guys need it to be catapble with SMF2.0 RC5

Other users are running SP 2.3.3 with RC5.
So I think that, basically, the two are compatible.  Something is causing the problem, though.

Were there any irregularities when you installed SimplePortal after the RC5 upgrade?

No, but I did, used to have a RC4 forum and it worked fine, but no, there was no errors when I was installing SP 3.3.3 on RC5. I'm gonna try to downgrade my forum to RC4 to see if it was just RC5 causing the problem.

Also, my problem is, I don't know how to downgrade my forum from RC5 to RC4, HELP!!!!

I have a problem now, I downgraded my website to RC4, and Installed SP and I got theses errors (http://img842.imageshack.us/img842/5884/simpleportalinstallerro.png).

It can be difficult to downgrade SMF versions.
What other mods do you have installed?

Well only SP and this page tab mod adder. Also Youtube BB code. The downgrading was not to hard, all needed to be done was install RC4 files in without losing any topics or boards. I found it kinda easy, just had to remove the update.php and sql files.

Before making that kind of change to your website, it is usually good to uninstall mods.
Uninstalling SimplePortal now, and re-installing it might work.

Please try SimplePortal without those other two mods installed, just to make sure there is no imcompatibility.

It just seems like you are in SimplePortal's maintenance mode.
But that should certainly show up in the SimplePortal admin center.

Thanks for checking that.

When you re-installed SimplePortal after downgrading back to RC4, you got errors. How did you solve that problem?

Well I didn't get all RC4 files on the FTP when I was installing mod. Was kinda in a rush... But now I do have RC4 files on FTP.

OK.  Now, you have started with all RC4 files. And then re-installed SimplePortal, with no other mods?

Can Guests see your forum?

Members cannot see your forum?
What do members see when they log into your forum?
------

When I try to look at your site, I only see an error message.

Connection Problems
Sorry, SMF was unable to connect to the database.  This may be caused by the server being busy.  Please try again later.
Is this what your users see? But you see something different?

Thanks for telling me what I should be looking at.
As guest, I can see that sp_main contains nothing but a <b/>.
It is as if either
1) Guest is not allowed to see any of your portal-page blocks.
2) You did a "guest cannot see portal" customization.
Can you turn on articles and add one forum post as article, to see if it shows up on the portal page -- for guests?

how?

I fixed it, my issue was, that I had all membergroups selected. When I should of had, ignore member groups.

Thanks for your support, AngelinaBelle.

I'm glad you sorted out your permission issues.
They can really be confusing!
