Smiley Maintenance Issues
« on: May 27, 2009, 11:38:21 AM »
Hello all,

I first posted this issue over at the SP forums, but, after 30+ views and no replies, I thought I'd try over here since I've also recently installed the SP 2.2.1 update as well.  :nervous-happy:

Yesterday I went in to do some rotating of my "Post Form" smileys, and found that I have an odd display issue showing up when I go to my "Edit Smileys" and "Set Smiley Order" tabs.

I've attached two screen snaps so you can see.

I recently installed the upgrade for 1.1.9 (and also the 2.2.1 SP upgrade), and since I know everything was fine before the installs, does anyone know of any issues caused by SMF 1.1.9 or SP 2.2.1 related to these two smiley tabs? On the "Edit Smileys" tab, the issue results in my not being able to select smileys to put to "Post Form" or "Pop up" or "Hidden"...the menu select boxes on the right side are gone. On the other tab, it just cuts off view of smileys to the right.

Also, after a quick check of the "Pop up" window (after clicking the "[more]" link in a post form), the display on that screen seems fine.

Anyone have a fix for this?

Thanks all!

Tal

Does this happen with the default theme?

Yep...I use only the default theme.
The only thing I've tweaked on it are the colors, and that's been done for a few years now.

What screen resolution are you using?

Could you provide a test admin-account so I could look for myself?

Thanks!

The resolution settings - they haven't changed at all.

The  test-admin account - I'll PM you with the info.

Thanks again!  ;)

Just an update -

I sent back over to the SMF forums and gave it another shot.
I tried this fix: http://docs.simplemachines.org/index.php?topic=1079.0

But that didn't work either.

Here's a link to the thread over there:
http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=313348.0

Would the last update to SP have caused this type of issue?

Thanks!

Ok...I did more testing this morning with uninstalls and reinstalls of SMF 1.1.9, and nothing seemed to fix the problem.

Here's a link to the topic I started over at SMF (I think I've posted this once already, but, I'll post again just for context):

http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=313348.0

So, when all was said and done, I did an uninstall of the latest version of SimplePortal (I'm running 2.2.1) and.....the issues I'm having went away.

So, the problem either exists within the latest version of SP, or, it is conflicting with SMF 1.1.9 somehow. The only problem that wasn't fixed what the "Default Forum Language" issue (noted in the topic at SMF, linked above). The only option I have to select from is "English". In this case, that's fine, since that's what I use. But - I know I should have a whole host of options, and they're not listed there. That may relate to the SP issue, or it may be an SMF issue. I think I'd like to tackle the SP issues first though.

;)

I've checked and the issue is that you have huge avatars like:

http://allsidespoliticalforums.com/main/Smileys/default/troopsribbon.jpg

SimplePortal adds a table which is sensible in shrinking. If something really tries hard to break it, SimplePortal table cuts it off.

The best I can suggest you is, adding this to your URL while you are modifying your smileys:

Code: [Select]
;debug
It will disable SimplePortal until you remove it from URL yourself.
And slowly, you come to realize... It's all as it should be...

Oh ok....yes, I've been meaning to take those larger smileys out of the "Smiley" area, but had not gotten around to it yet.

Would removing the larger ones have an impact, or should I just use the

Code: [Select]
;debug

...and go with that?

If I use that code at the end of the url...would I first (for example) go to the "Edit Smiley's" tab, and then type in the code at the end of the URL in the browser, then hit the "refresh" button on my browser? Or - what exact steps should I take?

Thanks so much for your help Sinan!
This has been quite a challenge trying to figure out.

Removing those huge smileys will solve it. If you'll still have issues, you can use the trick I provided. Marking the topic as solved.
