Title: Installing problems
Post by: kirby on April 19, 2010, 12:41:22 AM
I tried to install simple portal via the package manager, but when it finished doing it nothing changed and the redirection just leave me at the normal admin page. Then, when uninstalling I got a bunch of "test failed" errors (I tried to install ezportal with the same situation).

After a research in this forum I found I apparently had a problem with permissions, so I CHMOD everything to 777, but it still didn't work. But when uninstalling I got no more problems.

After a little more research I found the simpleportal files weren't uploaded, so I did it manually and then I got to the simpleportal admin and I can see the portal on frontpage...

But not on the forum and I can't move blocks either... so I think there were still missing features that didn't install... so... why?!  :(

I solved about the blocks (silly me)... and I know this is not the right place to ask... but does anyone knows why did that happen with the package? is this a simpleportal issue or is it my host? or did I made a mistake in the ftp info at package manager (I can't find where to change the password  :-[)? or life just hates me?

That sort of error is almost always an issue with the server and how SMF interacts with it. It can't really be a SimplePortal issue, because SimplePortal doesn't actually execute any of the code that performs the install process (except the db installation which doesn't appear to be your issue).

Its likely to be an issue with the server. ;)

Did you manage to put blocks on your forum?
