Image Truncated in Header (FIXED)
« on: June 17, 2012, 04:32:17 PM »
I've got a 1300 px image that's being truncated to about 1000 in my html header.

blackdebate.net

Why is this happening?

I see no sign of that image banner being cut off or shrunk.  I'm viewing on a 1680x1050 screen, and see the whole thing.

What is happening is your image is being left aligned, rather than centred to the displayed page width.  That makes it look odd, and seem like something is cut off, when the rest of your site will span the full available browser width.

The image width is 1300 but is only displaying at around 1000 px.

Originally it was 1000px and took up the same length. I made it 300 px longer and it still takes up the same lenght.

Something in the hmtl block is preventing it from displaying its actual 1300 width.

Sorry I do not see a problem with the image size being displayed.  This is on a second PC with a 1920x1080 resolution.  The banner is it's for 1350pixel width with the crowd on the left (and I'll show my ignorance) the old bloke on the right.  None of these look compressed and neither is the text.

But because the banner is justified left, there is a blank on the right of the image which makes things look odd.  If the image was centred it would look better.

Note I'm viewing using Firefox.  It might be that a different browser is doing something strange?

have a look at your css  line 3624 apparently
Code: [Select]
.logo_inner {
    height: 200px;
    margin: 0 auto;
    width: 1350px;
}
  That might have something to do with it.

i don't see any problem with logo, maybe somehow you changed size of this site in browser? Try pressing Ctrl+0 (Control+Zero) when you are on this site

I used Aeva Media 1.4w to upload the image, then placed in in the header block.

Can it be that Aeva has a limit on the size and truncates an image automatically if it goes over this size?

If so, how can I override this?

Why use aeva  to upload?  The image should be uploaded to your forum's/theme/images to overwrite the original smflog.png file, using your ftp access or perhaps your website's control panel file manager if you aren't allowed ftp.  But then looking at the picture's information that's where the banner I'm seeing appears to be: http://www.blackdebate.net/Themes/SquareEra_SMF2/images/smflogo.png

The logo is fine.

I'm trying to get the image in the header to display correctly.

By the way, anyone know an image uploaded that actually works in sp 2.02?

I can't see any problem in firefox, it is the correct size, not truncated, but positioned to the left. This is often the case with theme logos. Is this your problem? Or have you fixed it?

If left aligned, this is a theme issue as far as I can see - not related to Simple Portal.

The image in the header is the logo -  confusing what you want.

This is the image set as logo? It is also in the header. And it is displaying correctly - aligned to the left. If that is not what you want, you need to change the html for it (contact support on the theme site or do it yourself in the them files)

If you are talking about the Simple Portal block 'Ad 001' with the image about 'Mulatto Queen' , then you need to set the image and url tags to display in the centre - easy - look at any html tutorial site and search for 'image align center' ... with url.
http://www.w3schools.com/html/default.asp

Logo image paths are set in your current theme administration page - no need to use Avea media and could be a possible cause of your problem. Usually logo images are uploaded by FTP to a folder and the path given in the template settings. Or you simply replace the default template image with yours... sadly, the theme may be written to display the logo in a way you do not want.

The theme html will set where the image is places - left, right, centre, and the padding or image offset.

If still a problem you need to contact the theme site.

I'm talking about the image in the sp.p header block --  the mulatto queen ad

Its actual length is the same length of the block -- 1300; however, it's displaying at 1000

I measured it in the block and alone in a browser in firefox - its exactly the same size.
Maybe using Avea it has been resized, or you are linking to the resize image avea uses - I dont know. Not the best way of using images on site except for galleries. FTP the original to a folder for site images and link it in the block code.

As I said there are great tutorial for learning html to center it if that is needed. If still unclear, best to post your block code too.

Took your suggestion and uploaded image to my server then linked to it in the block.

That fixed it.

Apparently Avera was shrinking it 300 px.

Thanks all!

Great! Always best to use direct links for site images in a folder on the server.

Avea displays a re-sized image usually - need to zoom twice to show the full image.

I marked it solved if ok. At the bottom there is a button for that in future which you can use yourself too.
