Slight display problem
« on: September 16, 2013, 05:04:46 AM »
I installed the portal in what was for me the very early hours of the morning with my eyes held open with match sticks probably not a good idea.

Everything seemed to go well and I am EXTREMELY pleased with the portal results, however when I went back onto the forum to start configuring the portal the way I want it this morning, some of my boards display properly (the majority) and some don't.

I have included two images to show what I mean. In all other respects all seems to function perfectly. If I disable the portal everything displays as normal, when I enable the portal I get the same problem. I have the portal set up as Front page.

The forum is at www.pagan-heart.net/forum/ although the number of boards that none members are allowed to see are very small and they all display with the fault.

Grateful for any help, thanks.

It is fine when you look at the forum display, the problem shows when you click onto some of the boards (not all) as shown in the images on my first post. Its only some of the boards that lacks the boxes as shown in the first image. Thanks for taking a look.

Divecall, I kind of agree. If there was not such a big space between, I'd like to have it like that on some of my sites. :)

DarkMere,
What you said is not very understandable.
You say that some of the boards look like that, with the boxes, and some don't.
Then you say when click.

Please explain a little more clearly. :)

The forum looks fine as in the screenshot you posted, but when you click onto one of the boards (ie open it up to show the threads within the board), all three boards shown to none members display the fault of the threads not being inside boxes. The majority of the boards (63 shown to members) display the threads inside the boxes, but about 25% of the boards don't.

If I disable the portal all boards display the threads inside boxes, if I enable the portal the fault returns.

Apologies if I am not explaining this very well  ;), thanks for keeping with me.

Just in case anyone goes to look at the site to see the problem first hand, I have had to disable the portal for the time being as too many members are complaining that they don't like the effect its having on some of the boards. I will turn it on briefly if anyone wants to see the problem first hand.

Thanks

Simple Portal was my first portal of choice, I also liked it the minute I installed it, except for the problem I am having above. Clearly there does not seem to be an easy answer to my problem so I am going to have to try the other portals. Don't really want to do this so if anyone can take a last stab at my problem I would be grateful.

I don't think it is lack of interest, more like lack of knowing what could have caused this.
Have you tried to de-activate all blocks, then activate one at a time, to see if one of them may be causing this?

Thanks for the good idea of trying this, sadly having just now done it, I can say that the blocks are not the problem.

It is difficult to understand whats happening. The portal is now in maintenance mode, when I log on with the Admin account that can see the portal, the problem exists, when I log on using my normal account that cannot see the portal the problem does not exist.

The strange thing is I only have the front page enabled, I don't have it set to show blocks on the forum, so can't understand why this problem is affecting forum pages.

Welcome to SimplePortal!

Thank you for your kind words and I'm sorry that I couldn't help any sooner. It's one of the busiest times of the year for me.

If you are still interested in running SimplePortal on your site I can have a look at your issue. I don't really have any idea about what might be causing it but I think I can come up with something if I can see it firsthand.

My time is very limited but I'll try to have a look at in the next day or two. So if you can enable the portal or send me login information for a temporary account that can see the portal through pm I'll check it out for you.

Hopefully we can come up with a solution.
And slowly, you come to realize... It's all as it should be...

I think I can see what might be causing the issue. Can you attach the MessageIndex.template.php file of your custom theme so I can give it a go at fixing it?

And do you remember making any changes related to separating sticky and normal topics on the message index?

I have attached the file as requested.

I have a mod installed called 'Separate Sticky Topics'

Thank you for putting so much time into this

That could be the issue. That mod may be conflicting.
Have you tested without that mod installed?

Having uninstalled the Mod 'Separate Sticky Topics', it has indeed fixed the problem with the portal.

As the uninstalled mod is only a very minor mod, I am happy to leave things as is, and I am very pleased. However if its a simple fix to get them both working together, if you could point me in the right direction I would like to give it a go.

Thank you all for sticking with this problem and sorting it out for me. I think the portal is fantastic.
