*Empty the file cache from forum
*Prune all shouts
It seems to work after those two operations :)

I guess AND I know I don't know what I'm doing. I downloaded the package and it told me that I couldn't use that type. So I did the other one and it said to stop there was a errior. I guess I just won't have sound on the shout box. I don't know enough to do it

Every time a page with the shoutbox on it is loaded there is a sound, whether there is a new comment or not - a bit annoying. Not sure if this would present a lot of work for you or not, or if you want to change it anyway.
My idea would be that it only makes a sound if there is new comment.

Also needed the cache and previous comments deleting to get it to work, though not a big deal.
how can we create a "shout_sounds.swf" folder to make our own sound? :D these sounds are not bad but i really wondered how did u make this swf folder because im hearing different sounds not only "ding" sound, sometimes it is changing and im hearing "dong" :thumbsup:

The file is in Adobe Flash v9 format, where you will need an appropriate editor to replace the mp3 files contained within.
I'm using Flash Pro CS5.
I can't access anything in the shout_sounds.swf file.
Is there another way to replace/edit the shout_sounds.swf file?
I suppose I could create a new swf if I knew the parameters? (I'm not a Flash developer)

If you want to edit the swf file directly I believe you could attempt using the latest version of SWF-Quicker.
Using CS5 you need to first use something like SWF-Decompiler to convert to fla (export to fla) then you can edit with CS5 before compiling back to swf.
This is disappointing... that I would have to use 3rd Party commercial software just to edit the sounds. :(
Also SWF-Quicker is PC only. :(
The demo of SWF-Decompiler does not allow me to export the whole file to .fla.
The previous method of adding SP shoutbox alert sounds simply used an .mp3 file on the server (and used a soundmanager.js function):

It would have been nice to have this method updated for use with Soundmanager2, and SP 2.3.5
Just installed this mod and it's working well.
One thing I'm curious about, it seems to alert even when there is no new shout, has anyone found a way to fix this so that it only alerts when a new shout has occurred?
Got it thanks....I have the same problem i set the time to 3 and still te samen.
Ok one more thing i noticed, it beeps everytime the page loads so if i click on a thread it beeps once that page is loaded. is this right? I thought it would only beep if a shout was made within the time i set it too.
How to clear shout history ??

Any time you alter the shoutbox sound, clear the shoutbox history. Let me know if that resolves your issue.

Navigate to: Admin -> Simple Portal -> Shoutbox -> Prune (garbage can graphic of specific shoutbox)
Checkmark the box titled Delete All Shouts and then click on the Prune Shoutbox button.

Double check if the file edits had been made correctly.It's all fine at my end, still no sounds
