Title: Problem with installion / SMF?
Post by: AndriiusMalb on March 11, 2012, 05:45:04 PM
Hello, I'm new at SMF and i don't know how to properly install mods.. So I downloaded "Simple portal" and I tried to install it using package manager, I thought everything is ok but "Simple portal" doesn't work... I don't know what can I do to make it work, maybe I need to turn something on or something like that?
Sorry for my bad english.

You didnt really provide any information why it didnt work ... so it is hard to help you.
It installs like any other mod using the package manager so if you are not sure how to use it then look at the information on the SMF site.
Usually after you upload a mod it asks you if you want to install it. Clicking the install link will open a new page with test results (it is not installed yet. Any red indicates problems). Only after clicking 'Install Now' at the bottom, will it make the changes. So you need to go through 2 pages to actually install it.

You will  also have to click the checkboxes for any additional themes you are using - it will not display if not installed for the theme you are using. If you install and use a new theme after that you will have to go through the whole process again so the portal edits are done for that theme.

Always best to say what versions you are using - SMF and the portal, and a list of other mods.
And any error messages when you installed? - copy and paste them here.

If no error messages after install from the package manager it probably IS installed. Look at the admin section to see if there is now a menu item for 'Simple Portal'. It is usually in the Admin submenu between 'Forum' and 'Members'

MAIN, CONFIGURATION, FORUM, SIMPLEPORTAL, MEMBER, MAINTENANCE.

The only difference to your site will be that the frontpage is now 'Home' (wilth sample blocks) and the top menu items have changed ... Home, Forum ...
It will also show up in your list of mods under the Package Manager menu - you can see if it is installed if it says [ Uninstall ] [ List Files ] [ Delete ].
If not installed you will see; [ Install Mod ] [ List Files ] [ Delete ]

You are not using any other website software with a bridge?
I think you probably did not finish the install but only the test install page (first one) . Or  did not click the checkboxes for the theme you are using.

Hello, thank you for responding.

I don't have any mods installed and there is no "Simple Portal" button...
If you need my forum website here it is: http://simplemc.lt

Maybe language can cause this problem?
I installed simple portal again how you said, but still I can't see simple portal in my forum..

When you installed you should have clicked the checkbox above the Lagusta theme on the install page - did you do that? If not it will not show.

You will only see the simple portal menu in the admin section - not from the front pages.
I do not think the language makes a difference ... if there was not a translation file I would guess any portal menu changes would show in English at least... but better if someone who knows for sure confirms this.

BTW
Did you find and install the simple portal language files for your translation? There are language files for the portal on this site - try finding yours.

Or maybe in the forum language boards.

I have seen this problem before. You think it is installing, but it doesn't quite manage it.

Please have a look at http://simpleportal.net/index.php?action=docs;area=solving_install_problems and let me know if it has any helpful suggestions.

Maybe I need to chmod some files/directories because non of "Solving Install Problems" works...

I'm sorry to hear that none of this has worked for you.
Who is your host? What permissions are you using on your SMF files and directories?
Do you have a temp folder, and what is the permission on that?

I am hoping I can narrow this down to something I can understand.
