I get this error when trying to install:
1. Execute Modification install2.xml Modification parse error
2. Execute Modification install2.xml Modification parse error
Can anyone help?

I am not familiar with this procedure.
Have you ever found this to solve an install problem?
-
fishyies, I don't know what you mean.
I have asked, over at Simplemachines.org, what it means when you get this errro message while installing a mod.
I suspect it is not to do with SimplePortal directly. I hope to find out soon.

I've heard that this can happen when files from two mods get mixed up in the temp file.
To find out if this is your problem, find the Packages folder in your forum.
Inside the Packages folder is a folder called Temp.
Delete all the files in the Temp folder and try the install again.
I hope this helps

I tried deleting the temp stuff, the install worked but I still had the same errors and the simple portal menu does not show up.

If the install worked then check the Admin page - see if there is a simple portal menu along the group starting with 'MAIN', 'CONFIGURATION', 'FORUM', 'SIMPLEPORTAL', 'MEMBERS', 'MAINTENANCE'.
I think it should show up automatically with a new Home/Forum button but might depend on how you set up your site - if everything in main root folder or different.
If no menu and no copyright showing in the footer perhaps it didnt install.
You can also check in the package manager - at the end of the line for SP 2.3.5 it will have a link ' Uninstall' ... in that case it is installed. If it says 'Install', then you have not completed install yet.
Might be best to attach a screen shot or copy and paste the exact error text. Should be easy to reproduce.

If you are getting the error Execute Modification install2.xml Modification parse error then the install probably did not work.
I asked about your problem at SimpleMachines.org, and got a couple of suggestions. If you join the support helper group, you can read them yourself at http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=475208.msg3322670#msg3322670
My suggestions are to try the following. I'm trying to list the easiest suggestions first.
1) Clear the Forum Cache (not the browser cache)
2) Check the permissions on the Packages and Packages/temp folders -- make sure they are appropriate.
3) Sometimes, uninstalling several other mods seems to help. We don't know why this is.
For information on how permissions problems can relate to installation problems, please read our documentation at http://simpleportal.net/index.php?action=docs;area=solving_install_problems

The latest suggestion I received was from someone who has received this message before. Please check the permission settings on Packages, and on the temp folder. Please let us know how this goes.
Thanks

All fixed, thanks everyone :)

Congratulations! Can you tell us which suggestion worked?
