Restrict Access to Shoutbox
« on: December 26, 2009, 04:42:29 PM »
I apologize if this has been answered else where ( I searched but couldn't find anything relevant). I want to be able to restrict shoutbox access by adding users to a specific user group, I created a group called Restricted Access and went into the shoutbox config and made sure it didnt have access to the shoutbox. But when I add users to the shoutbox they still see it, I think its because of the Regular Members group being checked. Am I over looking something or is there something I have to change in the code.

Thanks!

Ok let me get this right:

Restricted Access Group Rights:
Unable to see or Post in Shoutbox

All Other Groups:
View and Post in Shoutbox

how have you tried to restrict the group, did you uncheck that group under the shoutbox settings?

that's how i have tried to replicate your set up, and i am having the same issue, if this is how your is set up then i think it will be a case of writing a custom mod to prevent access.

Yes, but because they are still part of "Regular members" it gives them access

Good news, with a bit of custom coding i have successfully blocked access to members in the Restricted Access Group:

view here: http://testdomain.dth-scripts.com/SMF2.0/
Login: tempaccount
pass: pass

that test account is set to "Restricted Access" so should show a message where the shoutbox should be.

I have create a Package that can be uploaded and isntalled through SMF, let me know if what you see is what you need and i'll upload the package.
