Portal Image Resize
« on: January 26, 2010, 12:45:56 PM »
SMF 1.1.11
SP 2.3

First of all, forgive me if this has been posted before, I couldn't find it, and again if it's under the wrong board, I'm unsure as to what category this would fall in. I'm looking to be able to change the default portal image resizing under "Simple Portal -> Configuration -> General Settings". At current, it is set to 300x300, however for the life of me I cannot find any place to edit this. Reason been the template I'm using has a slightly larger amount of space that I would like to use, I've tried looking through some php files but I'm stomped. Any help would be very appreciated, thanks.

You will have to change some values in the portal.js file

[Find]
Code: [Select]
function sp_image_resize()
{
var possible_images = document.getElementsByTagName("img");
for (var i = 0; i < possible_images.length; i++)
{
if (possible_images[i].className != (portal_smf_version == 1.1 ? "sp_article" : "bbc_img sp_article"))
continue;

var temp_image = new Image();
temp_image.src = possible_images[i].src;

if (temp_image.width > 300)
{
possible_images[i].height = (300 * temp_image.height) / temp_image.width;
possible_images[i].width = 300;
}
else
{
possible_images[i].width = temp_image.width;
possible_images[i].height = temp_image.height;
}
}

if (typeof(window_oldSPImageOnload) != "undefined" && window_oldSPImageOnload)
{
window_oldSPImageOnload();
window_oldSPImageOnload = null;
}
}

Replace the 300's in the code with whatever size you would like the images resized to.

Thanks for the suggestion, tried it out and whenever I set a value larger than 300 it defaults to the normal size of the image, resulting in a scroll bar been added to the news box. Obviously if this can't be changed I can live with it, but any idea why it won't have it larger than 300?

It works fine for me when I increase it. See the attached file in which I set it to 400px. Make sure you make a hard refresh to your browser after you edit the JavaScript file. (Ctrl + F5)
And slowly, you come to realize... It's all as it should be...

The file in your comment was set to "1200" so made no effect to the images on my page, however I set it to 400 and it works now. Weird, I only changed the same values I did in my own file, so I really can't see what was wrong. Perhaps I accidentally deleted a symbol or something, although in that case setting it back to the default 300 shouldn't have really done anything. Either way, something has to have been different in your file, and it worked so I'm extremely grateful for that, thanks again!
