Title: Enable SimplePortal?
Post by: benz1 on December 23, 2008, 04:39:15 PM
I'm very embarrassed to ask this but I'm a bit confused by the Enable SimplePortal & Redirect to portal options in General Settings  :-[

With Enable SimplePortal un-selected the blocks appear exactly as I want them and the default Boards section appears (which I want) but Articles don't appear.

With Enable SimplePortal selected the Articles appear but the boards disappear.

Is there any way to have both the Boards and the Articles showing?

And what does Redirect to portal do?

Many thanks,
Benz1

No, articles are only shown on portal page. You can show both articles and forum at the same time. Though, it sounds like a good idea to add some blocks for articles. I'll add that to the feature list, thanks.

"Redirect to portal" is fix for some redirection issues. Enabling that will redirect users to forum, when are redirected to index page. But this will include login/logout too.

Thanks BD but I still don't really understand what Enable SimplePortal does? I would have expected none of the SP features, e.g., the blocks, to appear unless it was selected? However, as I mentioned, the blocks appear even when it's not selected - the only difference when I select it is that Articles appear on the portal page and the default SMF block containing the Boards disappears.

Have I missed something?

Thanks and Happy New Year,

Enable SimplePortal turns the entire portal on and off. If you have blocks, they won't appear unless "Enable SimplePortal" is checked. Hope that helps.

Thats what I would have expected Ms. Tamerin (yes, you sure are cute :in-love:) but for some reason, although SP is NOT enabled in my SP Admin settings, all the blocks are showing (which is fine because if I enable it, the main SMF Board block disappears). The only problem is that Articles only appear when SP is enabled so I can either have the SMF Board block or SP Articles, but not both.

Thanks,

That sounds like an improper install to me. But unfortunately I don't know the inner workings of SP well enough to know where. I'll try to point someone more knowledgeable this way.

Some thoughts: if you upgraded from an earlier version, check to see that all parts were removed properly. If you don't have any other mods installed, uninstalling SimplePortal, then replacing all your files with their original versions might help. Then you can reinstall SimplePortal and see if it works properly.

Thanks Jordan, you may be right. This is the first version I've used and although I do have other mods, this was the first one I installed.

Loving SP BTW. SMF has become my forum script of choice because of it.
