Hi, I'm using SimplePortal 2.1.1 on a couple of forums (and loving it) but about half the time when logging into the forum it goes to the page /index.php?action=dlattach;attach=20;type=avatar and just displays an avatar, nothing else. I though it was just me but have heard from other users that they get the same. The user is actually logged on, just can't do anything so has to back arrow and re login. Always seems to work the 2nd time.
Have searched on the SMF support forum and other people have had the same problem. The consensus is that it's caused by a mod and SimplePortal seems to be a common thread.
Has anyone else noticed this or have a solution to it?
Thanks,
benz1

I can't seem to replicate this issue. I need some more information to try and narrow down the issue.
Which version of SMF are you using?
Can you post a link to your website/s so I can see which blocks you have/how your forum is setup?
-
Thanks for the quick response.
SMF 1.1.8. One of them is www.massiveaction.tv/forum.
Can set you up an account if you like and pm you.
Thanks,

Yeah, that would be good. As I can't make it myself.

After looking at your site, my conclusion is that it was the 'Prettier Quotes' mod by Deprecated. Don't ask me why that would be causing the error, but it stopped after I uninstalled that mod.
I can confirm that the error was related to Cookies in some way, after it has happened once it won't happen until that the Cookie for your site is refreshed.
-
Thanks LHVWB but even after having deleted Prettier Quotes it's still happening for me after I do a Ctrl-F5 and log in again.
Also uninstalled Pages Management and still happening so that just leaves Simple Portal.
Is there a SP table in the database I can back up and then remove SP to see if it makes a difference?
Thanks,
benz1

Uninstalling SimplePortal won't remove any database tables, so your data will still be there when you reinstall it.
-
Thanks but when I try to uninstall SP it fails on:
./index.php
./Themes/default/index.template.php
Just to complicate things I've just changed the nameservers to move back to our old server as we've been having some performance issues with the current host.

Can you please post those two files as attachments?

Files attached. Thanks for helping with this...

Hi LHVWB, did the attachments help identify the problem?
Thanks,

Should I assume you can't assist any further?
-
Sorry about the wait, the attached files didn't help me to identify the issue. However I can help you to uninstall SimplePortal so you can try reinstalling it.
The attached files, have SimplePortal removed from the. Upload these files to replace your old copies and then uninstall SimplePortal, ignoring the errors that it gives you for those two files.
Then check again to see if the issue is still occuring.

Thanks for that, successful uninstalled SP, tested thoroughly and the avatar did not appear when logging on.
Reinstalled SP and the first time I tried to log on I got the avatar, both in IE and Firefox, so looks like it's definitely a SP issue.
Incidentally the 2 installations of SMF that I've had the issue on are on different servers so it can;t be server related.
Incidentally, although SP is installed, it is not enabled as if I enable it I lose the list of forums on the home page which I want but I did enable it temporarily and got the same problem.
Any ideas?
Thanks,

Members are complaining about this issue - I've told them we're working on it but do you have any ideas?
Thanks.

Go to a topic which have an image attachment attached. Login while you are in that topic and see if everything is normal.

Logs in fine from a topic with an image attachment. Looks like the issue only occurs when logging in from the home page.
Might upgrading to SPv2.2 help?
Thanks.

I remember a similar topic and user solved this by replacing all his files with fresh ones. I'm not saying that you do the same, but it may not be related to SimplePortal. I'll look into the issue as soon as I can.
For now you can try upgrading to 2.2.

I have that same problem on my forum with the latest version of SP. You can see the other issue in a post right here:
http://simpleportal.net/index.php?topic=1923.msg12950;topicseen#new
BTW- I do not have prettier quotes installed and I am running this on RC1. The only problem that I had was when I installed SP and the Recent.php file failed. It was just a simple edit that needed to be done from what I saw and I completed that edit.
I can replicate this every time I turn off my computer and go back to the site. The avatars in the Recent Post Blocks do not appear correctly for me and then when I log in, I am only shown my avatar in the upper left side of the forum with a white screen only and nothing else. I have to refresh or page back and login again for it to return to the forum site correctly. I have pictures of the Block problem attached to the other thread and I can get a screenshot of what this person is talking about as well if you want.
I included the Recent.php file on the other thread just in case. BTW, I am using Firefox.
Once signed on with one name, I can logout and come back in without this problem or sign in w/ another name without this problem happening again. I guess that would be the problem of the cache or the file in question?
I tried clearing my cache on the forum and that didn't help either.
I'll let you know what happens in IE7.

[SiNaN] helped me with my problem. Go ahead and try this. It worked for me with my problems with the avatar showing after log-in...
index.php
empty($modSettings['allow_guestAccess'])
empty($modSettings['allow_guestAccess']) && !(!empty($_REQUEST['action']) && $_REQUEST['action'] == 'dlattach' && !empty($_REQUEST['type']) && $_REQUEST['type'] == 'avatar')

benz1, have you had chance to test the solution offered above?
