Topic: Few questions about portal....

I've had a forum for quite a few years but SMF for just the past year and a half. I'm just finding out about the simple portal and think it is great.    My main question is, once I download the portal will I be able to work on it, save then work on it some more until I feel it is just right 'before' it goes 'live'? I have a ton more questions but will start with this one first and give ya'll a break.

Yes, once you install the mod, you can go to Admin > SimplePortal > Configuration > General Settings and enable the Maintenance Mode which'll make the portal visible only to the admins and no one else.

Thanks, that helps a lot. Just a few more questions and I think I will be ready to download and get started.

Does the ad management mod on SMF work with this portal or do you have to add something separate? Also, same for the shoutbox? I have it on my forum, will it work the same on the portal? I'm sure I will figure some of this out as I go along but every little bit helps.

I think you can have both of those mods installed, yes. However, you can also use SimplePortal blocks to display ads, like we do on this site.

SimplePortal has its own shoutboxes module. If you want, you can use that. Otherwise, you can continue using the shoutbox mod that you had, as you have been doing until now. I'm pretty sure SimplePortal won't have any negative affects on that.
