thank you

Hello abvs and welcome to Simple Portal!
If you wish to change the appearance of the shoutbox, you will want to change the CSS used for creating the shoutbox.
Begin by experimenting, using firebug for firefox, IE developers tools, or the developers tools included within Chrome.
Find what the correct rule names are for the shoutbox, and play with them. ONce you get things the way you like, you can make changes to your portal.css -- the one that comes with your theme.

I think that he's rather looking for some dropdown with colors as BBCode to use in Shoutbox messages as it's done in SMF post form.

You may be right, phantomm,
abvs,
For compactness, not all of the bbc tags are included in the shoutbox block. You should be able to use, for example, [color=red]this is a red shout[/color], as long as this tag is enabled for your shoutbox.

This is true. I am not sure how you went about adding the buttons. But you might like to add buttons that do, instead of [color], [red] (etc)

I am sorry. Simple Portal was not set up to do that in the shoutbox. The shoutbox area is meant to be kept compact and simple.
Changing this would require some customization.
