Header/Footer Blocks?

Has SP ever considered making header/footer blocks which span over all three columns? It would act similar to the Global Headers and Footers mod, but contained within SP and using the features of SP. As it is now SP offers (image1), but it would be nice if there was an option for (image2)

Is this in the 2.2 release? I don't see it. Or, do you mean 3.0?

No, it is not included in 2.2. It certainly will be in 3.0, but there is also a chance of this being in 2.3.
