The SimplePortal Team is happy to announce the release of SimplePortal 2.3.6, code-named "Mist!" This release includes fixes for the bugs found in the 2.3.5 version, and the change of license to allow for open development of SimplePortal. As of this version and going forward, SimplePortal is licensed under the BSD License. Older versions of SimplePortal are still licensed under the Simple Machines License.
We urge all users to upgrade to SimplePortal 2.3.6 as soon as possible to take advantage of the bug fixes. A full list of changes for 2.3.6 can be found in the changelog.txt file within the SimplePortal package, but the major fixes are:
- Updates and improvements to the built-in blocks.
- Several security improvements.
- Proper logging of portal activity.
- Several fixes and improvements to the interface.
- Styling options for board news block.
- Fixes to shoutboxes module.
Unfortunately, there is no auto-upgrade option from 2.3.5 to 2.3.6 due to the number of changes. So, if you are running 2.3.5 or an older version, you can upgrade by following these three steps. You shouldn't lose any data, but for safety, you should always back up before modifying your forum.
- Uninstall SimplePortal.
- Download SimplePortal 2.3.6. (http://simpleportal.net/index.php?action=downloads;area=stable_simpleportal_packages;file=139;download)
- Install SimplePortal 2.3.6, and you are ready to go!
Finally, please do not use this topic for any support requests. You will get a much more prompt response by posting in Install and Upgrade (http://simpleportal.net/index.php?board=54.0) board.
Thanks for all your support, and keep those bug reports and feature requests coming!

For those who might be wondering about the language packages; there were no changes to language strings in 2.3.6 version, so the language packages for 2.3.5 can safely be used for 2.3.6 version as well.
-
Thanks good news
-
Thanks SiNaN, been looking forward to the fixes for a while now.
Any new features in there?
-
Congrats !!!
-
Any new features in there?
Not really, for this particular version. However, we have been developing the new version of SimplePortal with new major features in another branch.
-
Thank You SiNaN

Thanks for updating such an already great addition to SMF! Forgive the nOOb question I'm about to ask but,...
according to this part of your post:

My dilemma is:
when you uninstall using the package manager, it of course asks if you want to delete data pertaining to your SP package install etc.
There's also the fact that I have many themes that I included on the original install of 2.3.5. that were integrated into the original SP v 2.3.5 install.
I'm assuming I'll lose my block and other portal information for the layout of my site if I delete all the data, however do I want to install the new 2.3.6 both files AND data over the top of 2.3.5 database/data information? or do I need to just uninstall the files and keep the data before I install the 2.3.6 version again?
thanks for your help!

Hello and welcome to SimplePortal!
If you want to keep your blocks, pages, shoutboxes, etc. from older versions of SimplePortal (like 2.3.5) and upgrade to 2.3.6 version, this is what you should do:
1) Get a back-up of your files and database. (you probably won't need them, but just in case)
2) Uninstall the older version (like 2.3.5) making sure that "Remove all data associated with this modification." option is NOT checked.
3) Install 2.3.6 package.
4) Have fun!

Most appreciated. Thank you:)

For now I've just (almost) finished forum independent articles feature. I've also added a profiles module which currently includes permission profiles but will be extended to include display (visibility) and style profiles. There are a lot more features I'm hoping to add but I may be a little ambitious this time, so I don't really want to talk much about those before I actually finish coding them.

Next version will be compatible with SMF 2.1?
-
Hello.
(sorry for bad English, I write with a translator) I'm from Ukraine.
Perhaps dear sir [SiNaN] please clarify this question, I use Simple portal for a long time, very much! I want to thank him personally and development team and creators of this wonderful product!
Now I have installed version 2.3.5, it Russified.
The new version 2.3.6 in English and it creates certain difficulties with the English language and install the new version.
I understand perfectly that a Russian translation is not part of your responsibilities, however otsustvie Russian localization
repels many people are Russian-speaking audience Simple portal on the transition to the new version.
Maybe something like the development team can help solve this problem if it is of course possible?
Regards from the Russian-speaking audience, Jack.

Hello and welcome to SimplePortal!
Thank you for your kind words. It's great to see that our mod is being used all over the mod.
Although the language pack version is 2.3.5, you can use it with SimplePortal 2.3.6 version without any problems. There were no changes to the language files with SimplePortal 2.3.6 version, so the same language packs can be used. Here's the link to the language pack in question:

Thank you Mr. SiNaN for the kind words of support and for taking the time to answer!
Perhaps I am somewhat hurried with your question (very much like to upgrade to 2.3.6)
I have read the Russian-language section of your profile support, but word of honor not find a clear answer, because there
information, to say the least .. old. Excuse Me.
Once again I ask you to forgive that taking up your time, if I understand you correctly Russian translation, that is Russian localization
for version 2.3.5 of the portal is absolutely true and fit to version 2.3.6 or may arise on the transfer of what was translated to version 2.3.5?
Just really do not want to make mistakes during installation.
Regards, Jack
-
Yes. You can use Russian Language pack for 2.3.5 version with SimplePortal 2.3.6 without any problems.
-
Mr. SiNaN good to hear, thank you!
I sincerely wish you success, inspiration and good luck!
With great respect, Jack.
And hello to you from Ukraine! Thanks again (http://arcanumclub.ru/smiles/smile455.gif)

Thank you and you're welcome! :)

Next version will be compatible with SMF 2.1?
I don't really know. I'm actually quite surprised that they could get a beta out so soon! (it has been ~3,5 years since the release of 2.0) I thought they were trying to break the record of 2.0. (it was released ~4,5 years after 1.1) Oh, they still can, if they can hang on for a little more than a year. It should be easier now though, as less people seem to care about it than at the time of 2.0; so it means less pressure. I guess it sounds harsh and not right coming from me considering the case with SimplePortal, however, I'm thoroughly disappointed with the new theme - the only thing I tried to do a little work with for now.
-
Okay, now that SP is BSD license, does that mean that people are allowed to remove the copyright?
There's a report of said action on the SMF site, and we are unsure how to react until this gets cleared up here:
http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=531011.0
-
It is certainly legal to remove the copyright of SimplePortal that is displayed on the website (but not from the code). SP has never really enforced it before, but no harm will come to anyone who removes the copyright display from a site utilizing SimplePortal.
If someone desires to get support for SimplePortal from an official avenue, either here at SimplePortal.net or the SimplePortal mod thread over at SM.org, we ask that they do not remove or tamper with the SimplePortal copyright. Once removed, we ask that users rely on their own expertise for troubleshooting SimplePortal, or become a donor here at SimplePortal.net in order to receive official support.
-
Thank you for clearing this up, here and at the topic in question at the SMF site. :)
-
Thank you

Thanks for the new release and good job team! 'w'

Its one of the downsides, Our site is fairly heavily modified, not just smf modified but SP has also been modified a fair bit as well. its not a huge job, just a matter of downloading both 3.5 and 3.6 and running file compare in notepadd++ on EVERY Single file :D So its a good few hours work. ive been putting it off.

supppeeeeerrrrrb............... thanx devs

Is 2.3.6 compatibile with SMF2.1?
-
2.1 is in beta, and as such you shouldn't run it at all in the first place. If I remember correctly it sort of is compatible, but not completely, so it's not advised to install it as it's not *totally* compatible and it *will* cause issues.
-

http://winmerge.org/
Compare the two directories recursively and hide files that didn't change.
30 seconds. :P
-
Is this still compatible with Simple Machines 2.1? Its out of beta no notices here ??
-
Actually, 2.1 is in Beta 3 from what I can see on their GitHub.
SMF 2.1 itself is not stable, it's not even in RC version, it is completely pointless to update the portal for a non-production version. That said, I am pretty sure Chen Zhen did try to adapt it, and made some kind of alpha unofficial package, but I cannot find it at the moment.
-
EhPortal works specifically for the SMF 2.1.X branch and is a ported from SP 2.3.6 (<-- originally altered for the sole purpose of SMF 2.1 usage).
It is stemming in its own direction at this point so any changes/add-ons may be different from future stable SP versions.
If you use it please report any bugs/issues in the appropriate thread on my forum.
The link for the download is shown in my signature (below) as EhPortal.
