Restrict shoutbox with membergroup
« on: June 08, 2010, 09:04:10 PM »
I am trying to restrict the part below the shoutbox which is used to input new shouts and i cant get it to work... this is my code so far

        if ($context['noob_protection'] = $context['user']['is_logged'])
                {
                        if ($member_info['group']['id'] == "1")
                {
                echo '
                        <div class="shoutbox_input smalltext">
                                <input type="text" name="new_shout" id="new_shout_', $shoutbox['id'], '" class="shoutbox_input sp_float_left input_text"', $context['browser']['is_ie'] ? ' onkeypress="if (sp_catch_enter(event)) { sp_submit_shout(' . $shoutbox['id'] . ', \'' . $context['session_var'] . '\', \'' . $context['session_id'] . '\'); return false; }"' : '', ' />
                                <input type="submit" name="submit_shout" value="', $txt['sp_shoutbox_button'], '" class="sp_float_right button_submit" onclick="sp_submit_shout(', $shoutbox['id'], ', \'', $context['session_var'], '\', \'', $context['session_id'], '\'); return false;" />
                        </div>';
                }
                }

Use == instead of = during the second statement.

Not sure what you're trying to do with this really. Are you just making so only admins can shout? Use $context['user']['is_admin'] instead.

Code: [Select]
if ($member_info['group']['id'] == "1")
This would return true only when the posted message in the shoutbox is of an admin, and that wouldn't work properly as you would need to submit a message first before applying the edit. Eg that specific condition returns the information of the person that posted the latest message.

Code: [Select]
if ($context['user']['is_admin'])
This would return a boolean of whether or not the user is group one, that is viewing the shoutbox.

the admin part is just for testing so i dont have to use multiple accounts , what i actually am trying to do is make everyone with less than 10 posts unable to shout

Just use this then:
Code: [Select]
if ($user_info['posts'] > 10)

You may need to global the $user_info variable prior to that statement. (you can add it to the global variables listed at the start of the function, make sure to avoid syntax errors though, put it before the semicolon and make sure there is a comma before it)

I'm glad that you've got it working. :)

You could always define a posts membergroup which users have when they have less than 10 posts, although for this application, its easier to hardcode the number (as you would have to change the code anyway).
