Newbie with a few issues
« on: August 01, 2010, 12:17:00 PM »
Hi everyone, I'm one of the new kids on the block.
I'm having a few issues with sp  2.3.2 installed on smf 1.1.11

The first one being my rss feed doesn't work. It just keeds saying invaild feed. Although this feed works on other sites.

The second one is the shout box. I get this error whenever I try to activate the box.

Illegal mix of collations (utf8_unicode_ci,IMPLICIT) and (utf8_general_ci,IMPLICIT) for operation 'ifnull'
File: /home/quaine/public_html/Sources/Subs-Portal.php
Line: 1112

I had one of the veterans at smf manually install sp for me so I have no idea what this code means or how to fix it. He is super busy helping others so he directed me here.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The newly created tables are not correctly converted to your utf8 collation.

This is a bug with the install of SimplePortal that should have been fixed, though I couldn't find it in the project tracker.

In the meantime, changing the collation of the text columns for your 'sp_' tables to the collation that your main SMF tables have (look at the username column of your sp_members table for an example). You can do this with a tool such as PhpMyAdmin.

Thanks for the fast response!! I got hostgator to do the collation for me and it works!! :D Now the next thing is the rss feed. I know the feed is active because It works on another site. However when I activate it, it says invalid feed.

One other question. Is there a way to make the shout box private between members?

Yes, you click the little [x] on them to delete the message.

Yes you can make it private to members by restricting it to specific groups.

Link me to your RSS feed

Duh... No wonder I missed it..  :-[ I didn't notice this because I don't have an X , it's actually a tiny  button.. As far as the box being private, I mean actually between the members.

Do you want the link to the portal or the actual feed link?

Also, you mean like private chat or individual chat (aka whisper)? Currently there is no way to do that, perhaps feature request it?

Actual feed link is what I'm wanting

I figured it out. I just created a custom html box and added my feed there.
