Copyright notice in wrong place
« on: June 12, 2011, 04:46:12 PM »
Hi,

I just upgraded my forum to SMF2 Final and SimplePortal 2.3.3.

I previously tested on a local copy using SMF 2 RC5 with SP 2.3.3, and the copyright looked fine, as in the attached 'Capture1.jpg' image.

Now, having installed on the live site with SMF2, the copyright looks a mess, as in the attached 'Capture2.jpg' image.

Can I correct this manually, and if so, where do I need to look?

Thanks!

You should be able to edit this in the index.template.php file towards the bottom where is says <div id="footer_section"><div class="frame">  :D

Hmm... comparing the code between my local SMF2/RC5 and live SMF2/Final sites, it seems to be identical - and yet there's this glaring difference in the display.

That is to be expected, since 2.0 final makes significant changes to the copyright. Although the place of the copyright is the only things that seems to be broken for 2.0 final, I still haven't marked SP 2.3.3 to be compatible with 2.0 final. I'll be updating SP for 2.0 final soon. The best you can do until then, would be to wait patiently.
And slowly, you come to realize... It's all as it should be...

That's good to hear. Waiting patiently is something I can definitely do... after all, SMF2 Final took how long? :D

Thanks!

The copyright also shows up on every single block that uses HTML.  You can see an example at http://www.troop520.org.

It's because you have <html><head><body> tags in those blocks. You should only put the code between <body></body> tags as the content of HTML block. You shouldn't have more than a single <html><body> tags in your page.
And slowly, you come to realize... It's all as it should be...

I can't see why some are being so fussy about the location of the copyright.

Not as though anyone will look for it.

Not as though anyone will look for it.

Because it appears in the wrong place, in the wrong colour, and spoils the look and layout of the theme.

Okay, most people probably won't notice - but when you've spent ages setting up your site to be just how you want it, you notice little details like this, and they nag away at you in the back of your mind until they're fixed.
