First time install
« on: March 15, 2010, 04:40:22 PM »
Adding SP to SMF RC3. Tried to upload using admin CP but no avail so I created a temp folder in packages and chmoded it to 777, now I have no idea what to do. All the files show in the folder but I have no idea how to actually add the portal from here. Any help?

The next step would be to try and install SimplePortal via the package manager.

this works and is pasted from smf

In Package manager > browse packages, click the advanced link bottom right.

Change the Emulation version to SMF 2.0 RC2

The parser will then install any mod that was designed for RC2.

Take care though, there are quite a few changes that some older mods for RC2 won't work so you'll still get an error but SP 2.3.1 works just fine.

Simple Portal is not showing in the Package Manager screen. However, the temp folder is showing under my File Manager.

Guess it's time to give up on it now.

Finally got it to show up under Browse Packages and went I went to install it only extracted 15 of the 25 files and went I hit install I got the white screen of death.

Do you have any errors in the Error Log after the white screen?
And slowly, you come to realize... It's all as it should be...

No, no errors are showing up in the log. Tried again without my firewall up, tried it using the default Curve theme and still no avail. Even emulated it back to version RC2 and nothing. Also, I don't have any other packages installed so this has me puzzled.

I wonder if it's a timeout. Let's try a lighter package. Extract the SimplePortal 2.3.1 package and upload Sources and Themes folders to your forum root. Then try installing the attached package.

Tried that and it didn't work either :/

I'll be changing hosts starting tonight and when I go back online I'm going to try it again and see if maybe that's the issue.

Changing hosts worked perfectly. This morning I was able to easily load Simple Portal onto my page and is working great. Thanks for the help.
