I can't get a page to save with just one selected block on it ?
Tried in different browsers but no different.
I can highlight just the one block I want then click edit but it seems that no matter what I do it saves with all the blocks I have set to show on the forum. i can go back and edit again just selecting the one but get the same thing ?
What am I doing wrong please
-
I have not heard of anything like this before.
I usually do not add blocks by highlighting during a page edit - in case positions are set differently.
I make the pages, save, then go to the block section of Simple Portal. There I make the blocks I need and select to display on the page I just made. This way I get the blocks in the positions I want that might be different from the page.
I did just test adding the blocks from the page edit and it does work for me on my site.
From the block section, try editing each block one by one adding it to the page (Display Options > Advanced Option). See if that works.

Is this your site you are having problems with?
http://uklows.com/
There is no Simple Portal link on it?

No

Thanks. I will run through your edit steps :nervous-happy:

OK. I think I don't understand how to use a negator.
What do I add to remove this block from the page I have (see attachments).
I tried ,-p3933 but it didn't change anything ?
Thanks

Tried the Docs (http://simpleportal.net/index.php?action=docs;area=custom_blocks_display)?
-
More information...?
I dont know what sforum is, or p4.
Now we are getting closer if its a custom display problem and not about adding blocks.
Anyway, to select or not select a page is easy - just do that in advanced options for pages. No need to use custom display options for that.
Also, as Ninja said, there is very good documentation about custom display options. Definitely read that before doing anything.
-
Thanks.
I don't know what p4 is either ?
sforum = all forum actions.
I was still confused after reading the docs BUT I did work it out from there :)
-~page
means that block appears on no pages
-
-p4 was in your screenshot of custom display options.

Anyway, not trying to blow SP trumpet but the custom display options can do 'almost' everything. There are few support questions since the documentation was updated by AngelinaBelle. A lot of work was done by her.
I go back to it often as it is easy to forget syntax. Look through and just do testing till you get it right. Back to support if not luck.

:)
I know where it was but I don't know what it is ;)
I have tried all the Portals over a number of years............no doubt this is by far the best as a user AND it is the onoy one that causes no issues with some of my nods
-
Glad to hear that you like it! I'm not sure if you have sorted it out though :P Could you tell us? :)
-
I know how to remove blocks from all pages ( -~page )
it still needed trial and error after reading the Docs. I know what sforum is because it is one of the examples given in the popup block.
-p4 shows against all my blocks but I don't know what it means ?
to answer your question YES :D
-
Yep, I still make mistakes myself with those negators and stuff, we are all humans don't worry ;) If the topic is solved you can mark it as such by clicking on the relative button :)

p4 = page4..............................
that confused me because pages have a 4 figure ID. By trial and error I have worked out that the last page I created is p7 (while it's ID is 3933). While I have been working this out I have created and deleted 5 pages.
Not sure if that is a glitch but it explains why I couldn't get my settings right as I was refering pages by their ID
-
LOL that's why it looked so weird. It's an intended behaviour, you must use the correct ID I guess, if you use just their number then it won't work.
-
but there seems to be no way (other than guessing) what the correct ID is !
The url uses the 4 figure ID, the Page edit area uses the 4 figure ID.
The Custom Display Options use the chronological order in whch the pages where created (even if they have been deleted)

Um, not how I use it.
Why are you leaving the ID box "default" when you make a page, anyway?
I always clear it, and NAME the page myself.
If my page was for a contact form, I'd set the ID to: contact
Then when people go to open the page, URL would be: index.php?page=contact
Also, you do NOT need to set a negator to not show blocks on pages you make via SP.
When setting up the blocks, you can SELECT which pages to show them in, and which NOT to show.
In the Display Options section, if select Advanced Options, there are lists for Select Actions, Select Boards, Select Pages.
In the last one, is how you set which pages to show the block in, or not. Why use a negator, for something can just use a check box for???
-
Thought you had done (iain) at least the URL part to be honest, everyone changes that ID... Sorry for not checking it.
BurkeKnight is correct as regards the checkboxes, too. You don't *actually* need to do it, however, personally, I tend to do it because having a list on where something shows and where it doesn't is fancy :) It's a bit harder though, so you might want to go with the checkboxes.

:nervous-happy:
.........because I didn't realise I could change it ;)
So if I give a page a name is that the ID used in the Advanced options ?
I get no tick boxes when setting up blocks (see attachment), a theme error I guess. I assumed the words were prompting me to input negators ect in the box I do see.

Yes, and in the URL as well. That's why it's better to have a good one :)

Sure you don't, you have to press the white "+" right next to "Select Pages", your theme makes it difficult to see it.
-
ah-ha ;D
(that explains a lot)
-
Exactly, you posted right after me ;D It's the background of your theme.
