Title: SP doesnt work
Post by: Lure.d on June 24, 2010, 02:42:57 PM
Sup guys I've done reading all tutorials on how to install it, but nothing i try works for me.
Plus the installation doc is sooo outdated.

I tried:
- ChModin` everything to 777.
- Creating a "temp" dir in packages with 777 chmod.
- Everything else that worked for other people in other posts.

It just daaamly doesn't install:
Code: [Select]
An Error Has Occurred!
You cannot download or install new packages because the Packages directory or one of the files in it are not writable!

anyways since installation works, i still get another problem:
simpleportal is shown to be installed, but i cant go to sp admin centers panel to edit it.
everything is shown to be installed, but im telling you how it is - it just dont work like it should..
main page is still a forum so yeah...

I would say you need to contact your host and ask them to ensure you are the owner of all directories and files in your home directory. You may think you are chaning the permsissions but they may no be taking.  If you have cpanel access you can use the file manager there to make file permission changes also.

solved it myself... all i needed is to delete the .htaccess which forced all files to 403 forbidden

edit: blah another crap...

Never bump your support topics within 2 hours of having last posted, the support given on this site is by volunteers, who give their time to help you, for free. Bumping so quickly is quite rude. Bumping after 24 hours is reasonable for a Support request (customization would be longer).

Edit: Also, don't post links to support topics in the shoutbox, again, that does not encourage me to help you in any way.

1) Make sure that you Packages, Sources and Themes directories are chmoded to 0777.
2) If that doesn't work, create a 'temp' folder in your Packages directory, then chmod that to 0777 as well.
3) If that doesn't work, create a 'simpleportal' folder in your Packages directory, then upload the contents of the SimplePortal package into that folder.
