Title: SimplePortal (help) did not install correctly
Post by: Rjfire on March 03, 2011, 05:29:49 PM
Hello, i have just downloaded version 2.3.3 of simpleportal for my smf version 2.0_RC4. When i installed it i was looking for the setting and everything but i could not find them. Where would they be located on the smf forum?

Were there any errors on install?

SP has its own section within admin.

Please have a little look around. If you don't see SimplePortal in the Admin menu, and if you don't see Sources/PortalBlocks.php, then it looks like the install failed.

Sometimes SMF's Package Manager has a hard time figuring out when an install didn't go properly. Often, this is because of a problem with permissions or, strangely, file ownership.

Please see http://simpleportal.net/index.php?action=docs;area=solving_install_problems (http://simpleportal.net/index.php?action=docs;area=solving_install_problems) for an introduction to dealing with some of these problems. Try any advice that seems to apply to your situation, and bring your questions back here, if you have any.

Did you try any of the suggestions at http://simpleportal.net/index.php?action=docs;area=solving_install_problems (http://simpleportal.net/index.php?action=docs;area=solving_install_problems)

yes i tried them and nothing worked i tried multiple trys to get the chmod right but i couldn't, have any suggestions.

 also if this helps the error for installing SimplePortal has to do with the SSI.php file and it says:

Quote
Find:
loadPermissions();

// Load some SP stuff.
sportal_init();

Replace:
loadPermissions();

Thanks for that information.

This line suggests you are actually doing a SimplePortal UNINSTALL. The Package Manager trying to find a section of code that contains SimplePortal stuff and take out the SimplePortal stuff.

Here's my advice: Even though the test fails, proceed with the uninstall.

Then, re-install SimplePortal.

Check your list of installed packages. Is SimplePortal listed there?

So the package manager thinks it is there, but it did not quite manage the install.
I'm guessing you have no Sources/PortalBlocks.php, for example.

It seems that you have some kind of permission or file ownership problem that is preventing SMF from copying SimplePortal files into the directories where they belong.

Have you tried some of the different suggested CHMOD settings for your files and folders?
Did you try explicitly setting permission on the Packages directory, and pre-creating a temp folder with the appropriate chmod settings?

Do you know which user owns your files? Do you know which user php runs as?

Yes.  For some reason, this helps sometimes.
