Removing tables from database
« on: April 18, 2011, 08:07:50 PM »
I had installed SP on my site when I was running SMF2.0 RC4 but uninstalled it when I wanted to upgrade to RC5.
I did the upgrade to RC5 but before I installed any of my mods, I had an issue with my site so my host had to suspend my site and removed my SMF folder in error.
They told me to go ahead and install a fresh copy of SMF 2.0 RC5 and then they'd release my database for it.
I don't know what happened in this process but I could no longer see the word "new" next to a new post or topic and I'm wondering if it's because I'm still showing SP tables in my database and these tables say they're using utf8 instead of Latin, like the rest of my tables.
I have 5 tables that say utf8, Smf_sp_articles, Smf_sp_blocks, Smf_sp_categories, Smf_sp_functions, and Smf_sp_parameters.
I'm hoping if I remove these it might fix my "new" problem but I don't know how to do that.

You can delete (drop) those tables through phpMyAdmin. For more detailed instructions:

http://www.google.com/search?q=how+to+remove+tables+phpmyadmin

However, I can assure you that your issue isn't caused by unused SimplePortal tables. They probably messed up your log_topics table.
And slowly, you come to realize... It's all as it should be...

Well you were right. Dropping the tables didn't do a thing.
I don't suppose you could tell me how to check that log_topics table?

I have no idea about that, sorry. You would get better support about that at simplemachines.org forums.

Thanks anyway. I did find someone at an SMF forum that helped me so I think I'm fixed.

Glad to hear that. I'll be marking this topic as solved then.
