Blocks speak! Do you have an interest in getting more blocks - or even making your own? The Blocks Board is for you!

Front Page assistance
« on: April 28, 2009, 08:44:41 PM »
Hello everyone. Recently i've downloaded the simple portal 2.2. there is an option to add a front page. This is what I've been looking for. I just don't know where to begin. I'm no coder and really new to all these stuff. If anybody can walk me through the process that would be great. Also, i was wondering if there was an option for all the blocks just to appear in the forum page and not on all the pages. Any help is appreciated.

You don't need to be a coder to use/setup SimplePortal. You can explore the 'SimplePortal' admin panel which is designed to be as simple as possible, there are [?] help popups if you need an explanation for certain settings or features.

To have a front portal page. Make sure that your 'Portal Mode' setting is set to 'Front Page', in your admin panel under SimplePortal -> Configuration -> General Settings.

You can restrict the locations that you show each block using the 'Display Options' area when editing a particular block. If you want a block to only show on the forum then use the 'Forum' option, if you want it to show only on the portal then use the 'Portal' option, if you want it to show on both (but not on other pages) then check the 'Advanced Options' checkbox and the 'Portal' and 'Forum' checkboxes under ''Select Actions.

This topic will help you to add a form tab: Working with Custom Themes.

You can modify your Portal page by changing your blocks in the SimplePortal -> Blocks admin area. When you edit or add a block there is an area called 'Display Options', if you set it to 'Portal' then that block will be shown on the portal. Also make sure that your blocks are 'Active'.

thanks for this i will try it out.. The tutorials showed how to add a forum button which makes sense, but how do i go about making a front page? where do i edit the front page from? or is it mainly build up of blocks?

The front page is completely built from actual SimplePortal blocks. If you want to put a main central 'page' area, then you can use the HTML or PHP blocks in either the 'top' or 'bottom' sides.
