Title: Custom Permissions in Block
Post by: JohnS on June 15, 2013, 05:02:20 PM
If I display a block and choose Custom Permissions what do the columns A X D represent alongside each membergroup?

I'm assuming A=Allow, D=Deny but if that is correct what is X for?

Below taken from SP's own help:

A: Allowed, any user of this group will see this block.

X: Disallowed, any user of this group will not see this block by default. The user may see this block if they are part of a group with Allowed permissions.

D:Denied, any user of this group will never see this block. This overrides the Allowed setting for any group a user is part of, so be careful with this permission.

Basically it is useful when the member is part of several usergroups. They may be allowed to see a block by being a part of one usergroup but it can be explicitly denied (effectively overridden) if they are also in a group with the "Denied" attribute. The reverse can also be achieved.

With a bit of thought it can be quite powerful.

Best to try it with a dummy member and play with the options.
