darn. not so easy ... error message when I try to install:
Error in Package Installation
At least one error was encountered during a test installation of this package. It is strongly recommended that you do not continue with installation unless you know what you are doing, and have made a backup very recently. This error may be caused by a conflict between the package you're trying to install and another package you have already installed, an error in the package, a package which requires another package that you don't have installed yet, or a package designed for another version of SMF.
I am running SMF 2.0 RC3, SimplePortal 2.3.1

Did the package manager give you an option to upgrade?
-
no it didn't
-
Well, then you first need to uninstall 2.3.1 completely and then install 2.3.2.
It would normally give you an upgrade but SMF 2.0 versions still cannot handle mod upgrades properly.
-
I uninstalled 2.3.1 and then I installed 2.3.2 and got the same error message and looks like the same errors.
-
You may need to uninstall the files manually.
If you get any errors ( test failed) on install again a manual edit is required.
-
If you still get errors on many of the operations, it might not have been uninstalled properly. (mostly because of incorrect file permissions)
Do you see SimplePortal copyright at the bottom eventhough it says uninstalled? If yes, then you'll need to uninstall the mod manually using the manual installation instructions.
-
Yes at bottom is SimplePortal 2.3.1 © 2008-2009, SimplePortal
However, SimplePortal 2.3.1 is NOT listed here: Administration Center » Packages » Browse Packages
because I uninstalled it as per your instructions.
Now you say to manually uninstall it with manual installation instructions?
I have searched and searched and cannot find manual installation instructions. Can you please tell me where these instructions are located?
Thank you,
bordercollie

Go to the SMF mod site entry for SimplePortal (http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=1104), the mod site has a 'Manual Install Instructions for SMF' function that you can use.
-
Thanks Nathaniel but there are no instructions for 2.3.1
Should I use another one?
-
On the mod page for simpleportal.
Use the parser in reverse to uninstall the mod.
-
I looked at Manual Install Instructions for SMF RC 2.0 Beta 3.1 Public Parse
And since I do not understand code (is that what that is?) I don't know what to do to un-install my 2.3.1
Is there anyone out there that can speak to my level? You guys all seem to talk way over my head (level of understanding).
-
I know the feeling. I call it techno babble.
:)
-
come on, some one throw me a bone please
-
Manual Installation Instructions are here:
http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?action=parse;mod=1104;attach=120231;smf_version=2.0_RC2
You just need to do the opposite to your files. If you can't figure out, just attach all the files edited by SimplePortal to your post here and I'll remove the edits for you.

I don't know what you mean by that. Could you please post the error message that you got?
You will need to manually remove the SimplePortal code that wasn't removed when you uninstalled SimplePortal. That can be done with a code editor like Notepad++.
