Thanks for having an interest with our portal. If you have any requests for features, have a look at the Feature Requests board.

Articles by Block (instead of by Topic)
« on: January 20, 2009, 07:14:37 PM »
I might be overlooking something simple, but I can't figure it out so I'm posting here.  This feature might not even exist.

I want to show Articles on the Portal page, but I would like Articles to be displayed from certain Boards as opposed to certain Topics.  I'm using TinyPortal currently, and with TP I can allow certain Membergroups access to a Staff Sports Articles board.  The topics in this board automatically show up on the front page.

With SP it looks like I would have to set each topic from the Staff Sports Articles board to show up on the Portal page after it was written instead of automatically.

I've been experimenting with Simple Portal version 2.0.5 on SMF 2.0 Beta 4.

If I've just overlooked something on SP, would you mind pointing that out to me?  Thanks very much,

Chase

Currently we don't have that feature. I remember giving someone a code that would make created topics articles at the same time. That could be modified and used for this.

Alternatively, you can use the BoardNews block which looks almost same as the Articles are on portal.

An advanced article system is planned for the next major release.
And slowly, you come to realize... It's all as it should be...

Ok - thanks very much Blue Dream, the BoardNews Block might be enough for what I need.

Although, I do have one question about the BoardNews Block: I set the character cutoff to 360.  After that, there is only a "..." and no "read more" link.  Is there a way to enable that? or what determines that (as the info box in the BoardNews Block configuration seems to say that you can expect to get one or the other).

Currently we don't have a "Read More" link but the links at the bottom of each post leads to topic. It will be edit with the first release.

Ok, I just installed 2.1.1 and it will display articles on the portal page from the first post in a specified topic.  It seems like it will only display 1 article from 1 board

Is there currently an option to show more than 1 post from a particular board?  Thank you.

I don't quite understand you (maybe i'm sleepy thou). Board news plugin will display first post of every topic in particular board (id in board news settings must be placed), you can define how many "news" you want on first page (also in settings).

You can't currently display more then one post (first) from one topic if that's what you mean.
