I saw another forum using simpleportal/smf and they had sort of a word flash slide show thing

where it said "words here" then it would disappear and another sentence would come up. "more words here"

And is it possible to add picture slide show where you have 1234 you click on 2 brings you to the second picture shown.

I'm pretty sure that was made with a JavaScript framework such  as jquery,   we do need an example, perhaps a link to the site using SP you mention to see it.

oh! that will be the forum announcements, and its afeature alredy included in SMF, you just need to enable it, go to  admin / main / news and newsletters

there you could put your news.


then go to   admin / configuration / current theme

and check Show news fader on board index:
