Where'd my Forum go?? :(
« on: March 07, 2009, 09:04:10 PM »
I was running 2.0RC1 with EZportal - and had nothing but problems - so I wiped the site, installed SMF 118 thinking it was more "stable" and then loaded SimplePortal after seeing your site, and how nice the DS theme looked...

That said, when I uninstalled something... my index (root) file got nuked, so, I have to write a new one - or "point" my index page to my /forum - as I thought the portal software would do this (like TP and MKportal do) - Anyway - so - if you visit my site, you get a blank page... cuz of the index file being messed for now...

Onto my problem though... OK, so I loaded SimplyPortal WITH EASE and set up a few "test blocks" and all looks fine... except, my "Forum" link has disappeared?? I can click on other links that bring me back into the forum (like last message read or last post etc) - but if I hit "home" it brings me out to the portal page (looks good too!!) RSS Feed worked like a champ! But, no FORUM button ??

Any idea where it may have gone?

I'll add this, I did have MKPORTAL on for about 5 mins - but removed that too.... But everything still "worked"... so it's possible that faq'd something up in my paths.... but before I go and do a total install from scratch again... thought I'd ask here about it first... since I'd rather not waste another 2 hours :-(

The site is here: http://www.f-1chat.com/forum/ (make sure to use the /forum otherwise, no entrance)

TIA -

KB

PS: I was just shutting things down to run to the Apple store - and went to logoff as Administrator - and just got this error....

An Error Has Occurred!
Unable to verify referring url. Please go back and try again.

So, definitely a path problem... I suspect one of my index files got messed ... but any help to fix - before doing a total overhaul would be greatly appreciated! Can't believe how great the RSS Feed and smooth blocks look! Fab job guys (and gals!) :D

The topic below discusses adding a 'Forum' menu button/link/tab for that particular theme:
http://simpleportal.net/index.php?topic=1305.0

Not sure about the logging out issue, you might get faster help if you ask about it at the main SMF website.

PS:

Well, due to some other issues - I ended up going back to 2.0RC1.. but things worked out OK with the template and such...

That said, I just noticed this - and I'm not sure when it happened for I think every thing was OK before -

Either way - in the USER INFO box - and other stats boxes... where there's supposed to be some graphics or icons or something - it now has the word "DOT" displayed??

I've never seen this before  (see attached) or I got the index files sorted now... www.f-1chat.com

Cheers -

You have to load up the images "arrow" and "dot", which you got with the package, into the images-folder of your theme. ;)
Sometimes I'm an angel, sometimes I'm a devil, but I am always 100% woman and if you have a problem with me, learn to deal with it!

Yep, as Manu said you are missing the 'arrow.gif' and 'dot.gif' images, you can fix that by copying them from your '/themes/default/images/' folder into your '/themes/{theme}/images' folder.

In relation to our Sites Smileys, read the topic below:

Many thanks to you both...

I know there's allot that goes on with themes and portals and such... and I appreciate you answering my many Q's.... I've been away from SMF for a few years now, and whilst not much has changed - they really have made many things better - I really like 2.0! I also like these templates and your portal is MUCH easier to use than some others out there...

I'll copy the graphics now :-)

Many thanks for the smilies too!!

Cheers-
