Title: Can't install sp

When i try install sp it's giving me this:
You cannot download or install new packages because the Packages directory or one of the files in it are not writable!

But all of my chmod's are 0777. What can i do?

This is a common problem, below is a possible solution.

Try creating a 'temp' directory within your 'packages' directory, then chmoding it to 0777 as well. Then attempt to install SimplePortal again.
