I have recently installed your portal mod on Griffons Hope which is a site I'm developing, and I really liked the welcome text but I wanted to set my own. So I fired up Word to type into and created the following text

Quote
Welcome to Griffons Call!

We hope that you’ll feel at home here.

I guess your first question is going to be well what are we? Well we’re a Dragon Age RPG with a difference. In that we’re taking a gamble and bringing back the Griffons. After all if something is only believed as dead that surely it gives an opening for them to be brought back yes? Well that’s at least the idea that this site is based on.

Griffons Call hopes to be a unique rpg experience like none other, but unfortunately this means there is quite a bit of documentation to read through first. Articles is a good place to start, this is where we have our Codex of information. Naturally we want to allow other members to join in the posting though so don’t be too afraid to submit information to be included in the Codex.

As you can imagine this site is hopefully going to be rather large, but surely that makes it all the more fun? We welcome a variety of backgrounds and hope to have more than Grey Wardens running about. Anyway, from all at Griffons Call we hope to see you around soon and we also hope you enjoy the site!

Naturally I wanted to be able to add some styling to this and was hoping it'd be as easy as setting up the other blocks. However it would seem this wasn't to be. While yes I could put in the whole amount of text into the box, and even preview it and it'd show right, after submitting it or saving it it only shows the first two lines. Any help with this please?

Link is:

Edit: I use SMF 2.0.2 and Simple Portal 2.3.4

I would use 'unformatted' text and edit it in say a new topic using bbc - toggle the code and paste that in the block. Microsoft formatting Im sure is not going to be 'standard'.
If it has to be html I would use some other editor than MS office - many free open source good ones.

MS-Word uses different character encoding as igirisjin has stated.
Try using Notepad.

Its still cutting off for me - even pasting in from Word into the custom UBBC Block its cutting off most of what I wanted to have showing, as in its not even showing more then two lines, is there any way of adjusting this as I can find nothing

have you got a BBC or HTML Custom block...??

on your website it only goes up to
Quote
We hope that you

i see in your text that you have spelt:
Quote
We hope that you’ll

with a apostrophe

i am sure that in some cases you will have to use a two single apostrophe's to depict one single one, as a single one is recognised as a text code...
or is this only in PHP...!!!

try spelling everything with out punctuation...!!!
« Last Edit: February 10, 2012, 05:39:58 AM by deansmar »
as a foot note:
i went from a SMF 1.1.11 to SMF2 RC3 with out any problems what so ever, first of all de-install all Mods, converted to RC3, then installed SP2.3.2, then installed the required Mods.

I'm not positive exactly how you're displaying this.
Just as a page from simple portal admin?

You can try backslashes:

or try using a character code .. ' is an apostrophe (single quote) :

Its just meant to be a custom BBC Block at the top of the portal

(Its called Welcome on the Portal) even trying both of those methods its still showing just this:

Code: [Select]
Welcome to Griffons Call!

We hope that you'

so its just meant to be a custom UBBC block but it seems to be being cut off around 255character mark @_@

Use a custom html block instead.

With this content:

Reading previous posts, I'm not sure you understood why not to use Microsoft Word.
You can not use it to view your text & then paste it into other formats... You can not use it at all.
Your Windows comes with a text editor named Notepad .. use it when viewing text on your pc (no MS Word at any time).

Copy the html code I previously posted directly into a custom html block.

View attachment.

That's EXACTLY what I did. I've copied and pasted from your post but I shall do so again, as you can see.

I've taken this from the post like you said and it still cuts off

What theme is that? Did you edit the code for it yourself?
Try testing in the default theme.

also.. the last code I posted had a typo on the second line. edited it so you can try it again as well.

It works now! much thanks ^_^

You're welcome.
There were characters encoded from MS Word as stated prior & that is why it was not working.
One of them was still in the codes I was posting in error because I copied your statement and didn't notice it at first.
Previous posted codes were edited to thwart confusion.

In the future please use Notepad or another compatible text editor such as EditPad Lite.

Glad you got it sorted.
