Incomplete login integration on SMF/SP
« on: February 11, 2010, 10:14:29 AM »
I'm having another issue that I'm hoping you wouldn't mind helping me with. One of the posters on my forum let me know that they are having some difficulty with logging in/out. When they log in on the portal page, it takes them to the forums, where they are logged in. When they go back to the portal page, though, they are logged out. Another poster said that this is happening to them too, both when they log in from the portal and from the forum.

I have my login set to "forever," so I went to log out to test this. I logged out from the forum, and when I went to the portal page, I was still logged in. (I tried clearing my cache and completely reloading the page via ctrl-f5 in firefox, and it still said I was logged in.) When I click the "log out" button on the portal page, it says "Unable to verify referring url. Please go back and try again."

I thought maybe it was just an issue with already being logged out of the forum, and thus not having permission to log myself out or something? So I went back to the forum and logged in there, then went back to the portal page to log myself out, but I got the same error.

-I am running SMF 1.1.11 and SP 2.3.1.
-My website is located at http://www.beat-wings.com, the forum itself is located at http://forum.beat-wings.com.
-I'm not sure where my error log would be located for me to check it. If this is essential to this problem, I can try to find it, but I really have no idea.
-I don't know if this will actually be helpful, but I've attached LogInOut.php from my Sources folder.

Sorry for the multitude of questions I've been having -- I hope that's not a problem. Thank you again for your help. :D

EDIT: I actually just figured out where the error log is. :-[ There's lots of that same message appearing, "Unable to verify referring url. Please go back and try again." Mostly for me, but a couple of times for Guests (probably the two posters I mentioned above).

Go to Admin > Server Settings > Feature Configuration area.

Make sure your settings are set like this:

Enable local storage of cookies > off
Use subdomain independent cookies > on
And slowly, you come to realize... It's all as it should be...

Okay, I did that -- "enable local storage of cookies" was already off, but "use subdomain independent cookies" was also off, so I turned it on.

Then I went back to the main portal page and tried to log out, and it still wouldn't let me. I cleared my cookies, my cache, and my active logins (per Firefox's "clear recent history" option) and while that logs me out of the forum at forum.beat-wings.com, when I go to the main page I'm still logged in somehow. And it still won't let me log out from there.

EDIT: I just noticed it's giving me a different error from before. While before it said something about being unable to verify the referring URL, now when I click the logout link on the portal page, it says "Session verification failed. Please try logging out and back in again, and then try again."

I have just registered on your forum and tested it. It worked fine for me. If you clear your cookies and log in again it would be fine I guess.

That's so strange -- I did clear my cookies, but it didn't work. I tried it in IE and it worked fine, so I restarted, and now it seems to be working in Firefox. I guess that's all it needed.

Thank you for your help! :D
