Title: More Portal Pages
Post by: vas on August 04, 2009, 10:48:36 PM
I am new to Simple Portal. But was following SMF and was visiting the SMF & Tiny Portal sites now and then for the past 5 years or so.

I am presently using CH moded phpBB2 with ezportal as Portal.

The new SMF2 and announcement of curve theme stirred my interest and I am contemplating a migration. Along with the SMF, I narrowed down to Simple Portal as the portal option. I have loaded a test site of SMF2 with Simple Portal.

In my live web site, I have modfied the ezportal files - Portal.php and Portal_body.tpl to f1news.php, f1news_body.tpl etc., and created multiple pages. In those pages i have loaded RSS Feed for the respective section.

Now my querry is - Is it possible to do that in Simple Portal or is there an option available to create mutiple pages.

To make it clear I give below my web site.

Forum:  http://www.starf1.com/forum/index.php

Main Portal http://www.starf1.com/forum/portal1.php

Additional Portals:

http://www.starf1.com/forum/f1news.php
http://www.starf1.com/forum/world.php
http://www.starf1.com/forum/ferrari.php

etc.,

Thanks in advance to answers and suggestions.

You wouldn't need to do that. SimplePortal blocks have a highly customizable display function, so you can define just where they get displayed. If you were to add files like you've done and connect them to actions, SP would be able to tell blocks to display only on that page.

Or you could also wait a little bit until SimplePortal 2.3 and use the built-in pages feature, if you don't mind not having URLs that end in .php. Then you could just select the blocks you want around those pages.

Also, if you really want to, you could actually use the apache 'mod_rewrite' to change the urls of specific actions so that they look like they are at 'f1news.php', 'world.php' or 'ferrari.php' when you access them from the internet.

Thanks for your reply. I will try through search how to do that. Hope I find. I have 2 pages displayed in the Simple Portal and I hope Iwill be able to find way to manipulate the top heading to include what I have in my various portals.

Thanks for your reply. I am making baby steps. As per your advice I will try through search and if I dont find my way I will come to the forum. :nervous-happy:
