Title: Shoutbox breaks on new install
Post by: johnsimpson64 on November 04, 2012, 12:27:50 PM
Having done a Forum search I've seen this subject posted in 'English' but I can't see any a solution posted that works.

Am in the process of moving from one webhost to another. Have done a clean install of smf 2.02 and sp 2.3.5  Language set to English

All works well apart from the shoutbox which when activated breaks with the following error:

Illegal mix of collations (latin1_general_ci,IMPLICIT) and (latin1_swedish_ci,IMPLICIT) for operation 'ifnull'

I have checked and changed the collations via phpMyAdmin and all tables now have latin1_general_ci.

One reply to an earlier post suggested that the character set of SMF must match. But my existing site(with a working Shoutbox) is using English with ISO-8859-1 with a mySQL Collation on all tables of latin1_general_ci ...so it is the same as the new site.

Has anyone got any solutions please.

Many thanks

johnsimpson64,

Imo when you edited the collation of your tables it did not necessarily change the collation of each column within those tables. Here is a tool that will perform the necessary db edits: SMF - Uniform collation & engine (http://askusaquestion.net/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=3623.0;attach=1285).

@Underdog .... the link you gave didn't go anywhere, but I figured the mysql gotcha and it works ok now. Many thanks for reply.

johnsimpson64,

Atm when first browsing my site it shows a blank page, refresh the page & it works (until the browser cache is cleared). I'm working on this issue but have yet to resolve it.

I am glad to hear the column collation was the easy fix.
